Malden, Massachusetts is a town in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 25,828 at the 2010 census. Malden is part of the Boston metropolitan area. It lies on the eastern edge of Wellesley Hills and is bordered by Somerville to the north, Belmont to the east, Newton to the south and Brookline to the west. The name "Malden" may be derived from an Indian word meaning "to lead a deer into captivity." The first settler in what is now Malden was John Alden who arrived in 1636. He named his land for his friend and neighbor Sir Edmund Halcombe who had also settled there some time before. In 1705-07 Governor Samuel Adams granted a patent for 20 acres (8 ha) of land near what is now Malden Center which Aaron Winslow conveyed to John Eliot in 1750. This 10 acre grant became known as Eliot's Pond because it lay just across from where he owned land later used by Harvard University as part of its campus. In 1839 Malden became part of Somerville when that community merged with West Somerville. In 1870 Malden residents voted to incorporate as a town under chaptered Statute No 711 of 1872 which declared all towns within Suffolk County equal in size with each other subject only to their own special taxation laws and no longer answerable to any other body save the state government or county government (the latter being then located at Chelsea). On April 1st, 1907, during Tammany Hall's last term as Mayoralty-holder after New York City annexed Queens and made it an independent city - much like Washington Square Park today - a motion was introduced by Congressman Lowell Weicker asking that all towns within Suffolk County join him in forming one new municipality called "Malden". ThisMotion failed but weicker never gave up hope so on July 15th 1907 another Motion was introduced asking that all towns within Suffolk County become one new municipality called "Wellesley". Again this proposal failed but on October 4th 1907 weicker again moved forward with this idea proposing that Wellesley become an incorporated village within Malden Township with its own Board of Selectmen and village manager appointed by him instead of through elections held every two years as were then required by law Finally on December 6th 2007 after more than three months deliberation Wellesley voters approved incorporation into Malden Township with its own Board of Selectmen . Upon incorporation many changes were made such as changing from a Village form of government back into an incorporated Town form including appointing a Village Manager instead of just a Board Member

Malden, Massachusetts, is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 24,471 at the 2010 census. Malden is part of the Boston metropolitan area. The name means "haunted" or "dreadful". The first settlers in what is now Malden were farmers who came overland from England in 1635 and built the first houses on the present site of the town in 1638. In 1825, Malden's first school was opened; it remained open until 1965. In 1855-1857 Malden had its first city government. The current form of government was established in 1978 when Malden became a town with a charter from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The history of Malden began with an Indian discovery which led to many early settler arrivals: John Eliot (1636-1722), Increase Mather (1678-1737), Jabez Peabody (1692-1762), Simon Bradstreet (1702-1765), Nathaniel Hawthorne (1807-1882), and others. Englishman Josiah Quincy also settled here early on and started one of America's earliest schools—the School for Gifted Women—in 1814/15. In 1833, when New England became an independent country under President Andrew Jackson as part of the American Civil War, Malden voted against secession because it felt that Yankee aggression would only worsen their economic conditions and increase social unrest throughout New England; however they did not back down after Jackson's troops burned their homes and businesses during his occupation of Vermont while he vacationed there in October 1863 without warning them ahead of time. During World War II much activity took place here including manufacturing for war materials such as munitions plants at Mystic Hill Ammunition Plant #1 and Shipbuilding Industries at Mystic River Shipyard No 2; this activity stopped abruptly after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941 resulting in very high incidences of cancer among workers employed at these plants caused by long hours working near salt water bodies exposed to high levels of radiation from nuclear weapons testing going on nearby throughout those years prior to 1945 - many still suffer from health problems to this day due to extended exposure! It wasn't until about 1966 when serious efforts were made within our community to redevelop some land into housing once again associated with education due to concerns around crime rates being skyrocketing especially downtown where there had been recent homicides attributed mostly towards young people arrested for low level drug possession or selling drugs although more recently increased robberies have been observed outside churches during services happening right near these areas etcetera etcetera but overall things are looking up & things are getting better so we’re just waiting for that next step which may be another library or maybe even a new police station coming soon
