Gun parts history in Lynn, Massachusetts can be traced back to the early 1800's. When Firearms Control Act of 1871 was passed, it banned the manufacturing and sale of handguns with any type of barrel less than .38 caliber. This law didn't take effect until February 15th, 1872 when the New England armory successfully lobbied for a repeal of the act. The repeal only applied to newly made firearms and not those that were already in circulation. The first handguns in Lynn were muzzleloaders which used 00 gauge bullets. The next step up was smoothbore guns which used 9mm rounds. In 1911, a machine gun known as the Browning Automatic Rifle was created in Lynn by Dr. John Browning and his son John Fenton Browning. The Brownings were so successful that they quickly became popularized throughout America and were exported to many other countries including Canada and Australia. The early 1900's saw an increase in crime rates due to lack of police manpower at the time. As a result, many towns began trying to buy automatic pistols from various manufacturers as way to provide security for their citizens. One such company that purchased automatic pistols from was slick (slippery) magazine pistol maker Smith & Wesson revolver manufacturer located in Springfield, MA which had begun making revolvers for civilians in 1899 under the name 'Slick Six'. In 1907, rifleman First Lieutenant Harry Laughlin Purchased a Winchester lever action rifle from Henry Repeater Arms Company located on Main Street in Lynnport MA . It is interesting to note that this particular rifle has been preserved and currently resides at Worcester County Historical Society where it is on display alongside other weaponry from its era such as artillery pieces dating back to 1775

The early firearms in Lynn were muzzleloaders and rifles. The first rifle to be made in the town was a .22 caliber pistol, which was bought by a local gentleman named John Rowe. It is thought that the pistol was made in 1836. In 1840, Mrs. Anna Stroud of Lynn purchased a shotgun from Ebenezer Winchester of Springfield, Massachusetts for use in her farming business. This shotgun became known as the Anna Stroud Shotguns because Mrs. Anna acquired it from Ebenezer Winchester’s father-in-law, who had inherited it from his father-in-law, Mr. Anna Stroud’s husband (Anna being Mrs. Ebenezer Winchester’s mother). In 1861, Jno Hogg of Lynn married Sarah Goodrich and also acquired a shotgun—the Sarah Goodrich Shotgun—from Ebenezer Winchester of Springfield, Massachusetts. From this shotgun collection we can date back to 1841 when John Rowe began making rifles in Lynn using an old Stevens rifle he had salvaged from Newburyport MA during the American Revolution! In 1846/7 another locality within North Salem commenced producing firearms with machinery; this locality was called “The Factory” and soon afterwards came into general use throughout Suffolk County as “The Factorytown Rifle Shoppe”; guns were produced there at various times until about 1850 when all production ceased because of competition from Henry Repeating Arms Works at Pawtucket RI
Lynn, Massachusetts is a town in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 17,898 at the 2010 census. Lynn is part of the Boston metropolitan area and has a total land area of 34 square miles (86 square kilometers). The townsite was settled in 1638 by men from Ipswich, England. The first settler in what became Lynn was Nicholas White who came overland from Ipswich in 1638 and named his new home "White's Pond". In 1639 John Smith moved to Lynn from Watertown and built a house on the south side of present-day Main Street. This site is now occupied by Newton Middle School. In 1649 John Winthrop founded the town of Salem in southeastern Massachusetts after leaving Plymouth Colony and moving westward along the Connecticut River. After some dispute about boundaries with Lynn, Salem officially formed as a separate town on November 3, 1649. In 1712 Captain John Webb moved his family to what would become Lynn when he purchased eastward along the Narragansett Bay shoreline from Roger Williams for £200 sterling (£ today). Webb had been captain of HMS "Dolphin" during King James II's War (1689-1697), during which time he had helped capture many English ships including HMS " Scorpion ". Captain Webb's son later served as First Lieutenant aboard USS Constitution (1801-1805) during her famous duel with Spanish flagship Santa Anna off Vera Cruz Bay Mexico City
