It is the second-largest town in Middlesex County and the tenth-largest community in Massachusetts. The town of Lynn was chartered on April 14, 1636 by English colonists as part of the New England Plantations. The name "Lynn" comes from an Indian word meaning "lake." The first settler in what would become Lynn was Thomas Parkes who arrived in 1638. A post office called Parkesburg was established in 1792 and remains in use today. In 1802, John Woolwich purchased land east of Lynn for $1,000 from the proprietor of Weston on Lake Winnipesaukee. Woolwich named his new village after himself – Woolwichborough (now Northborough). He built a smallpox hospital there which he used until his death in 1827. Woolwich's village became an important center for trade and transportation around this time because it had good connections to Boston and other cities through Route 1A (the present-day Interstate highway). In 1851, Drury House School opened as one of two primary schools for white students located within walking distance of both the commercial district where woolwichtown stood and also to serve black children living near Quincy Market. That same year saw further development with construction began on a large gristmill that churned out flour for local markets; this mill continued operation until 1966 when it closed due to competition from larger mills nearer Boston. By 1865, most businesses had closed or moved away while some elementary school remain including Drury House before becoming a residential area known as Ravenswood until 1984 when it too became an area known as Northborough despite never having been officially annexed into Lynn by that name. During World War I veteran Everett Sargent contributed money towards building a machine shop at what would become Waltham Center; this factory produced ammunition for American forces fighting abroad which helped support local economies during wartime shortages inside America such as gasoline and food products that were difficult to come by domestically . After World War II ended many soldiers returning home found their skills needed immediately such asawd Factories producing goods like radios parts truck tires bearings steel sheeting aluminum cans glass ..... these factories have now all closed down leaving little employment available ....... another company recently came onto the scene making artificial intelligence software but they are not hiring right now so we will just have to wait

Lynn was first settled in 1636 by Puritans from England. In 1793, it became a part of New England and was named for General John Peter Lynn who fought in the American Revolution. The town's original courthouse stood on what is now Main Street. The townsite that forms today's eastern edge of Lynn originated when two families bought land grants adjoining each other in 1810. They named their new village "Lynn" after General John Pemberton's force that drove Native Americans from their lands along the Mystic River during the Battle of Bunker Hill. In 1814, Congress created Essex County, including Lynn as its second county seat and renamed it after Boston's own incorporation into the United States following the Mexican–American War. In 1861, during America's Civil War (the American Civil War), Confederate soldiers burned down one block of buildings located in what is now downtown Lynn while Ulysses S. Grant was visiting there to observe military operations nearby at Fenway Park on Commonwealth Avenue. That event is generally considered to be the start of Lynchburg’s ongoing rivalry withBoston’s neighboring town Jamaica Plain over which community would become home to America’s most expensive real estate market—a rivalry that has only grown more pronounced since then! In 1907, because much of present-day Lynn had been built up as housing for workers commuting to jobs in Boston or New York City,[2] town officials voted to rename themselves “Boston-Lynnville” instead[1]. This change occurred due primarily to concerns about patterns of traffic circulation around these two cities; many people working eastward out of Boston actually traveled through Lynn before arriving at their final destination – often Plymouth Meeting or Somerville – than when they could have walked or taken public transportation directly to those communities (i e., going through Roxbury or Quincy). However long-standing residents continue to refer informally as “Bostonians” or simply “Loners” throughout much of this rural section today! One significant development associated with Lynns growth between 1907 and 2007 was its rise as an educational center with several prestigious universities affiliating themselves there: Tufts University (1907), Smith College (1963), Harvard University (1997), and Northeastern University (2006). In addition, many large businesses established their headquarters here such as Monsanto Company(1979) and WGBHUniversal Media Networks Inc.(2005). Additionally, renowned architects such as Iara Auerbach & Partners LLP[3] have designed numerous high-end homes here including President George H W Bush Presidential Library (2007).[4],[5],[6],[7]
