Laser sights are a type of sighting device that use light waves to "aim" a projectile. They were first developed in the early 1970s and became popularized in the late 1990s with the rise of 3D printing technology. Laser sights are now common on assault rifles, shotguns, and other firearms. Laser sights were first invented by George Peake in 1971 while working at MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory. He created a way to emit short laser pulses and track their trajectory using an array of lenses. This led to the development of what is now known as a "laser designator". Peake's laser designator was later modified by John Atanasoff and Clifford Berry at Bell Labs before being used in 1972 to shoot down an American satellite during the Yom Kippur War. In 1974, Atanasoff and Berry developed what is now known as the Laser Rangefinder/Monitor (LR/M) system which incorporated an optoelectronic ranging sensor into a standard monocular eyepiece. The LR/M system was eventually standardized by NATO as AN-94A from 1987 until it was replaced by modern rangefinders including those produced by precision rifles companies such as Barrett Firearms Group, Bushnell Firearms Inc., Ruger, SIG Sauer & Co., Sig Sauer USA etc.. The success of laser sights led to their widespread adoption throughout military forces around the world over subsequent years with some variants becoming widely available on civilian firearms too. Today, laser sights continue to be popular for several reasons: they offer improved accuracy compared to traditional ammunition handling; they provide a fast target acquisition time; they are less likely to cause unintentional shootings or accidents; they can be customized according to individual preferences such as brightness levels, windage and elevation adjustments (in addition to Target Acquisition Modes or TAMs).

One such occasion was when Nathaniel Hawthorne observed "an innumerable throng"of peoplefilming a stage performance at Union Hall just blocks away; he wrote an article critical of theater goers for having "no taste for art or excellence", provoking an angry response from local leaders who responded by closing down Union Hall for three weeks. Reflex sighting units use mirrors or other devices mounted on the barrel or receiver to help align the weapon's bore axis with the target; these units usually require manual adjustments rather than being automatically calibrated like open-back scopes do. While there are many benefits to using Laser Sights, there are also some drawbacks which should be taken into account before making any decisions about this type of weaponry: In order for lasers gunsight systems to work effectively, they need light waves that propagate through space unimpeded by obstacles such as people or objects intervening between them and their targets (e.g., people in front of a mirror reflecting off an object behind their victim). Oftentimes this is impossible due eitherto obstruction from things like people or objects lying in front of the beam path OR because external factors have interfered with light propagation such as rain or snowflakes obscuring part or all of the beam path causing errors in Target Acquisition Angle (TAA) readings caused by scatter from obstructions within 5 degrees [of aim]. As technology advances however various modifications made specifically for Laser Sights exist which promise much improved performance over traditional open back Scopic Systems while maintaining similar usability/comparison characteristics including resolution@50 yd @1 m depth , fast acquisition rate @ 50 ft without line break & long range accuracy (@ 800 yd ). Finally most recent advancements include developments focused around waveguide based designs intended improve efficiency&safety while minimizing scatter
