The primary industries have since moved away from agriculture or manufacturing – but many legacy businesses remain such as Quincy Market Inc., a major grocery store chain based in Quincy – and many local streets and buildings still bear their original namesakes’ surnamesakes such as Eliot Avenue and Dexter Avenue. Today's economy depends heavily on services such as healthcare (the largest employer), retail trade (especially online sales), transportation (mainly trucking), information technology, real estate investment/servicing and tourism among others. Leominster has seen some significant growth over the past few decades; it now has over 30% of its population living outside of town limits due to commuting needs to jobs elsewhere within New England or beyond. This rapid out-migration has caused some problems for residents who don't have enough housing stock to accommodate all those moving into town; however more’than half of current residents commute into work or school instead of relying exclusively on public transportation options available withintown Limits
