The townspeople soon adopted this policy and began stockpiling weapons for defense. In 1757, when British forces invaded Massachusetts during the French and Indian War, Leominster sided with Britain and repelled the invaders. In 1834, when Reconstruction ended in America following the American Civil War, Leominster passed an ordinance prohibiting racial discrimination in public accommodations. This law also banned slavery within its borders until it was repealed by Congress in 1865. On September 11th of that year, three bombs exploded at two different locations withinoston resulting in over 100 injuries and $20 million damages. The attacks are considered one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in history.

On November 4, 1630, Sir John Winthrop led an expedition from Southwark, London to settle what would become the Colony of Massachusetts Bay under the jurisdiction of Plymouth Colony. The new colony was plagued by disease and famine, but Winthrop persevered and founded Leominster on December 12th as part of his effort to create a Christian society based on British values. In 1784, when Worcester County was formed out of parts of Hampshire and Norfolk Counties, Leominster became one of its largest towns within that county. During World War I (1914-18), many soldiers stationed in Leominster were drafted into the military service because it was located near Boston Harbor. After the war ended, many returning soldiers found their homes had been destroyed or damaged in the post-war rebuilding process. To help these veterans rebuild their lives some founded two organizations: One called "The Home Builders' League" which aimed to provide housing for ex-soldiers and their families; while another organization called "The American Legion" offered support services such as legal aid and food delivery to troops stationed overseas during World War II (1939-1945). Today there are still many veteran households who reside in Leominster due to its close proximity to major metropolitan areas like Boston and Hartford Connecticut; however most residents now commute into those cities for work or pleasure purposes rather than live within walking distance of any downtown businesses or attractions
