In 1768, a group of men in Leominster, Massachusetts gathered to craft the first gun magazine. The magazine was designed for use with firearms that were not self-loading. It took about two years to build and by late 1770, the magazine had been put into operation. At its peak, the magazine had around 20 members. The Gun Magazine Club was formed in 1807 and it continued operate until 1834 when it merged into another club. In 1892, the Gun Magazine Club building was torn down and replaced with a new one which remains in use today as the headquarters of the Leominster Library District’s archives department.

Leominster is a town in Massachusetts, United States. The population was 14,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boston metropolitan area. Leominster is located on the east bank of the River Wabash, about 12 miles (19 km) north of Boston and 9 miles (15 km) south of Quincy. Leominster was first settled by English colonists in 1630 as an agricultural village on the east side of the river. In 1775, during the American Revolution, Leominster became part of Massachusetts as a result of its strategic location between Boston and New York City. After independence was granted to America, Leominster remained loyal to Great Britain until 1837 when it joined Confederation with New England states including Rhode Island and Vermont to form the new United States of America. As a small town founded on one main street and surrounded by farmssteads and forests, Leominster has always been an important cultural center for its surrounding rural communities; many local museums are open to visitors within walking distance of La Salle Hall High School and Town Meeting House. The current name for town was changed from "Lemon hundred" or "Lemonburgh" to "Leominster" in honor of Lord Lexington who helped lead resistance against British occupation during the American Revolution. In recent years there have been several large projects that have taken place in Leominster:1) The construction of two new high schools – LEMONHILLS STATE HIGH SCHOOL & LEMONBURG STATE HIGH SCHOOL – both opened their doors in October 2009;2) The renovation/update/constructionof various buildings within La Salle Hall High School which included lengthening corridors, installation of sound proofing materials throughout each room & improvement to air quality;3) A major project that will impact all residents & students inside & outside La Salle Hall High School called “A Better Campus” which includes installation of new sidewalks, driveways & entrances into campus;4) A major expansion project underway at Brown University that will include an addition to Brown’s Student Center totaling 124 feet (37 m), remodeling/updating classrooms and laboratories as well as increasing meeting space for student organizations on three floors beneath a new roof;5) A $10 million dollar development project being undertaken by MCDOWELL ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS LTD.;6) An expansion project under way at Northampton Regional Technical College that will include a classroom building adjacent to Northampton Community Complex which will house technology labs, business incubation space and more;7) Numerous other small projects throughout town that are not yet listed here but are deserving attention due their importance such as resurfacing streets in-town after years neglectful maintenance see www.leomisstersightsandthesoundsoflife.com
