Lawrence, Massachusetts is an agricultural town in the town of Lawrence, Massachusetts. The population was 6,812 at the 2010 census. The name "Lawrence" comes from a verbal agreement between two Native American nations to trade goods for food. Lawrence's economy is based on agriculture and fishing. The history of Lawrence begins with the arrival of English colonists in 1630. In 1764, when colonial troops burned down the courthouse in what is now downtown Lawrence, the town's first mayor defended its inhabitants by saying that they had not done anything wrong. In 1815, when Washington Irving visited Lawrence and took pictures of it from a high atop Mount Auburn Hill, he called it "the most beautiful place I ever saw." In 1825, when Harvard College (now Harvard University) moved to Cambridge (then part of Lowell), it bought some land near where present-day Central Square stands and founded a new school there; Lawrence became part of this school system. A post office was established at Lawrence in 1827; until 1840 it was known as Northampton. In 1830, Joshua Chamberlain opened a dry goods store at South Main Street and High Street in what is now Elmwood Cemetery; until 1870 this store was one of the largest in the area. In 1836–37 Abraham Lincoln stopped by here while campaigning for president and ladies milliners made him dress suitably for his visit by making him suits sewn from white cotton twill fabric which he could then wear outside without getting dirty. This event helped increase awareness about modern laundry techniques among people who would otherwise have had little experience with such things back then

Lawrence, Massachusetts is a town located in the towns of Lawrence and Northampton in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. According to the 2010 census, the population was 26,829. The name of the town was given to its founder by General John Adams. Lawrence was founded in 1795 by Colonel Abraham Lincoln and became a city on May 14, 1846. It is named after former Prime Minister of Great Britain, Sir John A. MacDonald who also helped found Lawrence in 1795. The site of present-day Lawrence was first settled as an unincorporated community called Hopkinton on October 20, 1796 by Captain Jonathan Chandler and others with the blessing of then-Governor Joseph Addison. When Hopkinton declined to become part of Lawrence, its citizens petitioned for incorporation as a village on January 5th, 1800 under the leadership of Mayor James Prentice. On February 14th 1800 (now celebrated as Emancipation Day), Lawrence accepted incorporation into Middlesex County at a meeting held atappropriately located Congregational Church. The first mayor was Timothy Pickering with Wm Higginson acting as vice mayor As early as 1814 there were reports that Native Americans were living near what is now Lawrencetown; however this did not happen until after European settlement began in earnest The town's growth started slowly but steadily over time In 1825 construction began on what would become one of America's first public baths which opened to the public on November 3rd that year In 1830s local resident Isaiah Morse donated land for what would become Kneeland School Kneeland School closed in 1968 but it remains one of the most renowned schools in Boston Theodore Roosevelt served as President from 1901-1909 and during his presidency new roads were built through town including Main Street which run through downtown today
Lawrence, Massachusetts was founded in 1776 as a town in Gloucester County, New York. In 1825, the town of Lawrence was merged with the village of Groton to form the town of Groton-Norwich. The towns were renamed Lawrence and Norwich in 1912 and 1946, respectively.
