Sir John Lawrence (1684-1758) was an Englishman who arrived in America in 1786 and became one of the first British settlers in what would become Lawrence, Massachusetts. He built a smallLog Cabin on the north side of present day Main Street, which still stands and can be rented for $5 per night during summer months. He also erected a large wooden church called "The Great Eastern" which still stands today within walking distance of his home on North Main Street. In 1812, when Lawrence died aged 71 years old, his wife Mary inherited his extensive property and land west of town including many tracts that are now part of Harvard University's campus. For more than two centuries until 1934, Lawrence had no school system other than private schools run by individuals or families members which provided instruction to children from grades PK-12th inclusive through college level. In response to growing community needs over this period there were several major comprehensive plans implemented throughout the late 1960s & 1970s with disastrous results; all culminating with Plan I (1970-1975) which led to high rates of poverty & crime among inner city residents while providing very little public services or infrastructure development beyond providing some new housing units only usable for low income residents (&NO middle class jobs). Finally after much study & deliberation following several referendums conducted over 10 years we embraced Plan IIA (1985-1990), which integrates downtown business district as well as expanding K–12 educational opportunities while attempting to maintain traditional neighborhood values - WITH NO PUBLIC FUNDING! This included demolishing most if not all existing mom&pop businesses/trees adjacent to our now highly trafficked streetside shopping areas thereby compromising open air space essential for both education & recreation; but resulted in dramatic increase in tax revenue resulting from increased demand for goods & services generated by new population growth associated with larger libraries, hospitals etc., without any corresponding decrease in crime or poverty levels

Lawrence, Massachusetts is a town in western Massachusetts. The population was 6,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Worcester–Rochester, MA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was first settled by people from New England in 1636 and became a part of Worcester County in 1812. In 1837, Lawrence was chartered as a city and had a population of over 10,000 people. However, this prosperity did not last as the Panic of 1847 swept the United States and Lawrence lost its charter as well as most of its wealth and power. In 1850, when Massachusetts became a commonwealth, Lawrence reverted to its original name and became part of Worcester County once again. However, it retained some aspects of its independent status until 1959 when it merged with Rochester to form the current metropolitan area known today as Worcester-Rochester, MA. The history ofLawrence goes back even further than that; it is one of only two towns in Massachusetts to be founded by people who arrived here after colonists landed on Plymouth Colony in 1620 (the other being Ipswich). One theory suggests that John Winthrop may have been inspired to found his own settlement here because he desired more open land for farming than what he could find east of Boston Harbor. Another reason why Lawrence has been so successful during its years as an agricultural center is due to the fact that many residents are still farmers today - something which doesn’t happen often enough anymore across most major U.S cities (although there are still some very successful farmers within the city limits). For much of recent history however, agriculture has been less dominant than other areas within town limits – manufacturing took off during World War II while housing development followed later on into the 1970s but since then has slowly returned to pre-recession levels (although there has been slight growth lately in both sectors).
