By 1830, it had reached its current size with 50 residents! The early history of Haverhill can be traced back to 1634 when John Winthrop founded what would become known as Winthrop Harbor on Long Island Sound. That same year, he purchased 8 acres (3 ha) of land on which he built his plantation called Winthrop House. It would remain his home until his death in 1692; his second wife administered it during his lifetime. In 1635/36, Samuel Winslow arrived from England with 400 acres (16 ha) bordering on what is now West Roxbury Township and also included some land now within present-day Quincy County. He began farming here and soon became an important figure in local society due to his wealth and political connections! In 1645/46, during King Philip's War (the English Civil War), Winslow joined forces with Captain John Smith against Philips' army under General Thomas Gage. After three days' battle at Nescasset River Bridge near modern day Quincy Falls, they emerged victorious but lost all their munitions along with many men including Winslow himself! They managed to return safely back to their farm that same year! In 1647/48 Captains John Smith and Nathaniel Eaton captured a French ship off Eastham Bay while searching for munitions needed for their war effort against Philips'. On board were 300 pounds (113 kg) of powder, 2000 rounds of cannon ammunition and other supplies that were intended solely for use against the French! Upon recapture they found no weapons or treasure onboard but did discover 40 barrels(!) of beer that they took ashore with them before leaving again without further incident! This event helped solidify Smith's reputation as America's preeminent sea captain during this time period – something he would continue to build upon throughout his career!!! Winthrop House continued being occupied by both members of Captains Smith & Eaton's expedition until 1689 when it passed through ownership hands once more via marriage!! Finally moved into new quarters by early 1700s after being abandoned by previous occupants due to lack of resources??? Statedly abandoned because so few people wanted to live there??? Or maybe just chronically unoccupied? Who knows???? Anyway…its gone now!!! Now we have….Haverhill ???
