In 1938, another gunsmith named Harry Stevensopened his own store in downtown Haverillery. Stevens' store became known as "Stevens Guns." In 1954, Abe Levy opened his own store on High Street in downtown Haverhill. Levy's store became known as "Levy Arms."
Haverhill is a town in Massachusetts, United States. The population was 31,539 at the 2010 census. It is one of the most populous towns in the state and it is the largest municipality in Berkshire County. It is also one of the oldest towns in Massachusetts. Haverhill was founded by colonists from England on April 20, 1630 as Haverhill Plantation and became an incorporated town on July 1, 1852. The first settler in what would become Haverhill was Nicholas Allston who arrived with his family on October 15, 1630. He erected a small tree-lined path that still exists today between his house and his son's home on North Main Street to serve as a ceremonial approach to their new community. The first school in what would become Haverhill opened its doors on December 3, 1635 under teacher John Eliot. Classes were held at two houses until President William Samuel Adams donated property for a schoolhouse on High Street which became the permanent home of the town's first public library which opened its doors on November 7, 1784. It wasn't until 1806 when landowner Nathan Bedford offered to donate 160 acres (65 hectares) of land next to his mill pond for a gristmill that future Mayor Edwin Howland recommended building a courthouse and jail due to reliability issues with other local sites available for development at that time - this offer led to growth for Haverhill over time as more and more people began moving into the town from surrounding villages such as Lawrence and Westfield In 1868-1869 Reverend Amos Stoddard served as pastor of First Congregational Church located near center of town while Revs John Bartlett (1827–1902), James Kapp (1853–1929)and Alfred Hitchcock (1892–1959) officiated at various religious servicesami since then First Baptist Church has been our heartbeat! Haverhill, Massachusetts is a town located in the towns of Somerville and Medford, in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. The population was 62 at the 2000 census. The first settlers to Haverhill were three men from England who came overland in wagons in 1630. They named their new settlement "Haverhill" after a place near Hampshire, England. The next year, they organized a committee to survey and select land for a town charter. They chose the name "Haverhill" because it was an English word meaning "haystack." Although Haverhill had no official status as a town until 1712 when it became part of Somerville, it did have some governmental functions. In that year, the General Court appointed John Adams as its first Mayor. The original courthouse was built on Market Street between State and Church Streets in 1854-1855. It burned down in 1857 and was replaced by the current building on Read Street in 1897-1901. When Haverhill became part of Middlesex County in 1800, it had a population of about 130 people. By 1830, however, the population had increased to over 500 people due to waves of immigration from Ireland and other parts of Europe. Many Irish immigrants founded businesses within Haverhill during this time period including two grocery stores which survive today: Your Discount Grocery Company (now known as SuperValu) on Commonwealth Avenue and D'Arcy's Wine & Spirits on High Street. There were also several Baptist churches established throughout Haverill during this time frame including First Baptist Church which still stands today on Middlebury Road north of Route 93; Second Baptist Church which is now used as an apartment building; Third Baptist Chapel which stood across from North Middlebury Elementary School until 1984 when it moved to its current location on South Arlington Street; Fourth Presbyterian Church which is still standing today on Greenough Avenue east of I-93 south of Route 128; Fifth Methodist EpiscopalChurchwhich has since been torn down but portions remain at least partially extant at 149 Elmwood Avenue (northwest side) southeast of Interstate 93). In 1847 there were also 3 schools opened: one school for girls called Molloy Academy (now known as Girls High School); one school for boys called Pickering Academy (now known as Boys High School); and one school for black children called Park Hill School (later renamed John F Kennedy Junior High School). These schools closed by 1920 due to lack Ofsted funding although various sections remain extant such as Pickering Academy’s gymnasium where classes are currently held each morning before breakfast for students from across Middlesex County who attend local high schools nearby; Molloy Academy’s library where items are loaned outiovpon request or borrowed from local public libraries throughout Essex County; Park Hill’s athletic fields where both boys and girls play volleyball, track & field etc.; all while allowing tours inside each building every day except Mondays when classes are held outside under different names indoors like “School House Museum” or “Old Main Museum” etc.; many special events are also staged here such as holiday concerts typically outdoors during summer months or indoor Christmas events hosted inside various buildings every few years like recently “Fenway Park Open Air Concert/Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony 2018” taking place annually around Thanksgiving weekend just outside Fenway Park near Harvard University
