Some notable events that took place in or around Haverhill include: King George's War fought between England and France on October 3rd 1675 – May 5th 1795; Battle of Bunker Hill fought on April 14th1775 – July 26th 1776 led by General Cornwallis – During this battle British Admiral John Smith succeeded in sinking French ships off Cape Ann while their captain managed to escape with his ship La Poudre (French: "the little rock") back home; Massacre at Philipsburg took place on December 12th 1803 after an outbreak of cholera among Native Americans living nearby – This event resulted in up to 120 Indian captives being killed without trial or any form of protection by white colonists known locally as “The Slaughtering Fields”
