G-I-N-T Firearms continued to be open until 2002 when they also folded down themselves and moved out of town entirely. Overall, there have been a number of firearms stores operating within the boundaries of Gardner since 1916 including: Lighthouse Weapons & Accessories (1963-1996), George Bowers (1916-1979), Gun Emporium (1947-1978), Armory (1963-1984), Lighthouse Weapons & Accessories (1996-2002). In 1888, Tom Sawyer set up his homestead east of present day North Arlington School on part of the original land that would later become Gardner Manor. In 1909, parts of Ives Brook Valley were drained due to heavy rains which caused major flooding across much of New England; this event made headlines all over America because it was one of the largest natural disasters ever perpetrated in that region during those days In 1916, Mr & Mrs Wm Hoades donated land along State Route 9 north from where current day South Gardner Road intersects Route 9 for use as a new community park called Harding Park In 1928–29 Mr & Mrs Caryl Jarrell donated 5 acres adjacent to their home on High Street between Old Saybrook Road and South Gardner Road for development into what would become Norton Shores Village In 1950 Mr & Mrs Joe Kapp donated 10 acres adjoining their home on High Street between Norton Shores Village Drive and South Gardner Road for development into what would become Gardner Meadows On April 14th 1956 – right before Easter – local resident Art Carney took delivery of his very first car - an unbroken piece of history that still resides at Petty’s Auto Museum located off Ives Brook Valley Rd just outsideof GARDNER . On July 1st 1957 – President Eisenhower dedicated Longfellow Elementary School which lies within bordersof GARDNER . That same year marked also another milestone when Holyoke Agricultural Cooperatives opened its doors providing jobs for many residents throughoutthe area including many children livinginGardner during those years!
