One major event that shaped modern handguns was World War II where millions of Americans volunteered their time and resources towards helping Allied forces fight against Nazi Germany and Japan. Many civilians lost their lives during this conflict as well as thousands of military personnel who took up arms against fascism including General Douglas MacArthur who famously said “I shot Liberty Valance because I felt she deserved it’ (See photo below)). Afterward, many Americans turned their back on Hitlerism and embraced democracy while others formed partisan organizations such as The Democratic Party which would later become historical landmarks like Barack Obama Sr.). After WWII ended, many pistols resumed production including Beretta Pistols Incorporated Ltd., FN Herstal Weaponry AG & Cie., Steyr Arms GmbH & Co KG etcetera) all based out of Indianapolis Indiana during post-war years until 1960 when all handgun production moved permanently outside America following passage of Gun Control Amendment Act Of 1934 aka NFA).
