Franklin, Massachusetts is known as the birthplace of the modern rifle and shotgun. The first firearms were designed here in 1755 by a group of British military engineers. Until the mid-19th century, rifles and shotguns were mostly used for hunting game. However, with the development of breechloading firearms, this changed. Breechloading guns allow for a more powerful cartridge to be fired with one shot than muzzle loading firearms. This allowed for greater accuracy and range when hunting game. In 1836, George Washington was assassinated in Philadelphia and his Vice President Aaron Burr was charged with carrying out the assassination. Burr had possession of three pistols that could fire Nickels’ bullets which killed him instantly if he had hit him in the chest or stomach. With this new technology at hand, gun sights became an important tool for shooters across America. Gun sights became standard on many American rifles by 1841, after which they continued to be developed and improved throughout the 19th century until they reached their current state today. Many different types of sights were used during this time including unscrewable iron sights (the precursor to today’s red dot sight), circle pointers (shaped like a V), bead optics (small circles that are held over a target to help aim it), swivel eyepieces (which rotate around an axis) and protractor sighting systems (similar to those found on microscopes). Some other significant advances during this time include adjustable stocks which allowed shooters to personalize their rifles according to their own needs; telescopic sights which provided variable magnification; bayonets; airguns; .50 caliber machine guns; artillery pieces such as howitzers and mortars; and even watches! The 20th century brought about many changes to firearm design including fully automatic weapons such as automatic pistols and carbines which became popular in World War II. However, gunsight technology largely stagnated during this time due to technological advancements instead being replaced by better lasers, infrared sensors and satellites

Target sights consisted of two mirrors that were aligned so that when the shooter aimed at one, his bullet would automatically fly towards the other mirror and be reflected off it into space. The user then had to focus on where he wanted his bullet to land in order to achieve accurate results. Although this system was effective, it required some skill and practice in order to use effectively; however, it was ultimately the most successful type of sight until later systems became available. thereafter came ranging devices which allowed shooters to track their bullets up and downrange with ease- these devices consisted of a dial or lever attached directly to either side of the barrel which let you change how far your bullet could travel before being reflected back onto your aiming window

Franklin was settled in 1690 by Puritans from England. The town was named for General John Franklin, who led the American Revolution. The town grew rapidly and by 1778 it had a population of about 1,500 people. In 1792, the town voted to secede from Massachusetts and became an independent republic.
