In 1806, a company was founded by Captain John Morse and his brother-in-law Josiah Gregg that manufactured rifles and pistols. The company prospered until 1829 when it closed down due to financial irregularities. The first Ammunition store opened up on Main Street in Franklin in 1830. The store was run by Mr. Warburton and his wife Sarah. They sold ammunition,shotguns,ammunition cases, cannon balls and powder for sale as well as firearms supplies such as rifle stocks and pistols. In 1832 Mr. Warburton's son John started the store with his father’s help called “Warburton & Sons” It continued to operate until 1861 when it became known as the “Franklin Armory Company” It remained here until 1865 when it merged with another armory located in nearby Worcester County to form the Worcester Armory Company Limited Partnership (). In 1870, King George V of England granted an exclusive license for manufacturing lead bullets for America under the name of American Ammunition Control Company (). This gave rise to new business opportunities for Ammo dealers across America who were now able to sell ammunition directly to customers rather than through local retailers like Mrs. Warburton’s father-in-law Josiah Gregg's "Warburton & Sons". In 1896 Ammo dealer Jno Ewing began marketing Winchester rounds direct from England using a distribution center at Exeter Mills near Boston MA while Mrs Warburton continued operating her stores under her own name until 1911 when she retired from business completely(). Mrs Warburton is buried at Green Cemetery in Franklin where she has long been respected as one of the town's most prominent citizens dating back more than two hundred years!
