But like so many things good & bad happened during those turbulent years just before & after I-90 came thru: Downtown business went away for 2 decades while fancy stores moved uptownnyc & higher taxes hurt us more than ever before; crime rates exploded especially Atheneum St & Everett St areas where joblessness often ensued; houses gotSignificant repairs/updates (& some remain today!) but Main Street kinda stopped existing—except for Brewers Row which still happens sporadically…& yes there’s been some realignment going on over there too—-but mostly kids are moving back out onto Main since businesses have closed down hereabouts
