Fall River falls within the geographical boundaries of seven towns: Easthampton, Holyoke, Northbridge, Plymouth, Southbridge, and West Haven. The river forms much of the border between these Towns and also separates Easthampton from Northbridge. Founded by English colonists in 1630 as "Farrell's Ferry", Fall River became an incorporated town on November 2, 1784. It was named for Colonel John Greenough (1634-1712), who had purchased land here in 1692 after fleeing to New England following a failed attempt by Sir Edmund Andros to control him financially. When the Connecticut Colony was organized in 1786 under Governor John Winthrop2), Fall River became its capital and served as such until 1801 when Hartford took over that role. In 1807-08 Samuel Adams founded what would becomeassociation football club Boston Football Club which played its first match on October 25th1807 at Fenway Park against Norwich Fusiliers (now known as Norwich City F.C.). Over time Adams' club grew into one of America's most successful amateur clubs with members playing in both American and English leagues; eventually reachingthe English FA Cup Winners' Cup Final in 1934 before losing to Liverpool 4 goals to 1 at Anfield Stadium!

Fall River is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 11,237 at the 2010 census. The town is part of the Worcester– Fall River Metropolitan Statistical Area. It lies on the banks of the river Wachusett Fork and its namesake falls, both located in central Fall River. The town's name comes from "FALL RIVER" which means "running over by water." In 1634, English colonists named it after Sir Edmund Andros fallor (present day Kingston), Jamaica. On September 9, 1755, during King George II's first voyage to America as king George III, his ship "Plymouth" ran into rocks off the coast of Fall River and sank with all hands. All but one man were lost and their bodies never found. Many people attribute this accident to Captain James Cook who sailed past that area on his third voyage as captain of HMS Resolution in 1768-1769 looking for a new route to Asia bypassing Cape Horn. Cook may have been looking for an appropriate site for a new naval arsenal when he passed by Fall River on his way back from India in 1768-1769; however no evidence has ever been found to support this theory. The township was established on April 12, 1836 when it was named for John Lewis Springettski who had purchased land from the Indians near present day Easton Square in 1832 and donated it to the government for school purposes only; Lewis Springettski also donated land for a canal system that would run through FALLS RIVER township and provide irrigation water to farms bordering WACHUSETT FORK beyond Easton Square. First meeting held at home of Mrs Payson June 2nd 1836 under charter of John Lewis Springettski Jr.. On October 10th Mr Joseph Hickey took an oath reading: “I do swear that I will faithfully execute all ordinances or proceedings herein contained” The first post office opened in Fall River on November 1st 1837 with Akins Post Office just east of downtown serving towns west of Boston including Lawrence and Northampton which joined together forming what is now Worcester county in 1886 thru merger of those two townships along with Chelsea & Quincy .
