The first school in Everett was built near present day Sewall Square on December 14th, 1800 by Samuel Eliot Morison and it served as an academy until 1825 when it became a high school under the name "Hampden Academy". In 1865 it merged with other schools in nearby Easton to form The Lawrence School District #1 which still operates today as Hampshire High School (grades 9-12). A new high school building opened in 1928 called "Moses Hallett" after its namesake Moses Hallett who donated land for it along with many other donations throughout Harvard County including parts of what is now downtown Rochester and much of what is now Springfield Township It closed in 1954 due to neglect but reopened as "Everett Jr./Sr." High School in 1959 which currently serves students grades 7-12 In 1955, while serving as Superintendent of Schools for Hampshire High School District #1 Ivar Dooley decided that there should be a new high school located within our boundaries not too far away from our current elementary/middle schools so we transferred all grade levels from "Moses Hallett" into this new building which then became known as "Everett Jr./Sr." High School
