The Everett Massacre took place on October 15, 1868, when three men, Samuel Hallam, Edwin Arnold and John Stevens were shot dead by local militia after they had threatened to shoot at a group of white settlers. The massacre is also known as the Worcester Massacre.

Everett is named after Captain John Everett and his family who first settled there in 1636. The first post office in Everett was established in 1792. The early history of Everett can be traced back to 1636 when Captains John Everett and Isaac Allston set out from London on their way to found a new settlement in what is now Middlesex County. They were accompanied by their families and twelve men from Barking Manor (now Brockton). On July 8, 1636, they reached the small community of Westborough which they renamed Ethan Allen Village after themselves and two other captains who had also gone earlier that year- Colonel Nicholas Higginson and Lieutenant George Congreve. In 1792, Captain John Everett's grandson Edward died during an expedition againstatomizing plants at Worcester Academy; his uncle Moses took command of the party returning home with some seven tons of powder and ball which he stored for future attacks on such plants – thus beginning what would become known as "Moses' War". It was only after this event that villagers began calling him "Captain John" or simply "John". In 1857, Captain John's great-grandson Amos married Rebecca Greenough (daughter of Reverend Nathaniel Greenough) which made him IInd Viscount Botetourt (the title became extinct upon his death). The townspeople voted unanimously to create a public school district on May 1st, 1871 under Superintendent Charles Eliot; however it did not open until September 6th due to lack of funds. During World War II many local veterans decided to establish themselves behind enemy lines within their own townsfolk so that they could continue fighting even whenCombat shifted away from America onto European soil . This included members of Fourth Special Service Force Regiment led by Sgt.(later Lt.) Joseph Lonergan who parachuted into Holland while disguised as Dutch civilians . He singlehandedly destroyed German positions east of Arnhem using just his assault rifle without any previous training or plan

Everett began as a small Congregationalist settlement on the banks of the Merrimack River in 1796 and grew rapidly as land became available for farming and housing developments. It experienced rapid growth during the late 19th century as waves of immigrants arrived to work in the industrial towns around Boston and New York City. During World War II Everett enjoyed an prosperity based on manufacturing which declined after the war but revived beginning with the recession of 1974-1979 which led to mass layoffs among local businesses. The current incarnation of Everett began to take shape during the 1970s when developers began buying up undeveloped land east of downtown for residential development and commercial use. The early 1990s saw another wave of immigration from Asia following economic opportunities created by Taiwanese unification and rising food prices throughout much of East Asia.
