The first courthouse was built in 1783 on Meeting House Hill and named for John Winthrop (1621-1703), an early settler and lawyer who served as governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony from 1630-40 and later as Chief Justice of New England from 1689-97. Everett residents have long been involved in a wide variety of civic life including government service, education, business ventures, sports teams ( notably the Everett Patriots football team), music composition/performance groups and art exhibitions throughout their history. In recent years Everett has become known for its popular annual Faire which features local artists exhibiting their work outdoors during Saturday morning market hours. Today's Everett community began to form following passage of the General Laws of Massachusetts on November 3rd 1814 with incorporation into Middlesex County under a new charter dated February 10th 1815 - one day before Boston's incorporation into neighboring Charlestown county under a different charter also signed by Governor John Adams two days earlier! Both towns were exempted from paying taxes until 1832 when both became fullfledged towns subject to 1) general taxation within Middlesex County 2) special assessment levied on land values above $1 per acre beginning January 1st 1833

Everett, Massachusetts is a town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. Everett was first settled in 1777 by English colonists. The town has since grown and changed hands several times. It is now part of the Worcester Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town site was selected for its location on the southern edge of North America and its strategic position as a crossing point for the Longquam River. In 1777, Captain John Smith led an expedition from Boston to find new lands in what is now New England. He reached Everett on July 15 after journeying overland for days and arrived on July 22. On August 5, he wrote: "We have landed here with infinite satisfaction...It hath been our intention to make this place our permanent habitation." After reaching Everett, Smith built a trading post named Fort Craddock near present-day Webster Hall which served as his headquarters during his exploration of what are now Rhode Island and Connecticut. In 1781,Captain James Kappecker founded another trading post at Fort Snelling which served as Kappecker's headquarters during his explorations of what are now Minnesota and Wisconsin. In 1802 President George Washington sent Major General Israel Putnam with orders to explorate into what are today New England and Maine by land and sea route only - without any claim to Indian territory - in order to assess American claims thereto before making any decisions about claimed territory with France or Spain (the two major powers then involved in the Great Lakes region). Putnam's report concluded that no land lay within American boundaries suitable for settlement but did recommend that some efforts be made to secure such lands through purchase from the indigenous people living there (the First Nation People). In 1804 Lieutenant Colonel Francis Eustis set out from Portsmouth along present-day Route 611 in search of fresh water resources east of Boston under the direction of Secretaryof War Aaron Burr (then Governor Thomas Lynch's nominee for Commander-in-chief) after learning that British warships were moored off Hyannisport drying up resources necessary for their navy pursuits off Cape Cod Bay. When Eustis reached Beechfield Marsh he discovered freshwater ponds large enough to support human populations but too shallow for ships due to shoals caused by estuary bottom sediments accumulated over centuries from waves crashing againstshore; he called them "Everett" because it resembled one of his earlier military victory photos taken at Rochefort Point near modern day Falmouth Junction in Plymouth County When General Nathaniel Johnson took command of all U.S forces occupying Canada following its surrender at Yorktown on October 19th 1813 he ordered Major General Anthony Wayne to march towards Montreal via Kingston whereupon Wayne discovered vast tracts of new land extending northeasterly beyond Upper Canada proper including much valuable timberland lying within 200 miles or so of Toronto; these regions were subsequently named Ontario after him although little if any evidence exists verifying this historical assertion Aftermaths: In 1830 local resident Josiah Quincy organized a group known as The Republican party which opposed Andrew Jackson's re-election campaign as president; they soon became known as The Quincy Democrats . After becoming president himself they converted back into Republicans . In 1838 Samuel Adams founded Harvard University based largely upon recommendation from Representative Nicholas Colleton who had met him while visiting Pequot Lake.. During World War I many residents chose not to fight because they considered themselves pacifists
