Everett, Massachusetts is a town in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 30,722 at the 2010 census. Everett is part of the Boston–Worcester-New Bedford Combined Statistical Area. The town was first settled in 1636 by General John Winthrop and his party from New England as a summer home for him and his family. In 1802, the town voted to become a village and received its charter from Governor John Fenton on November 3, 1802. The first settler in what is now Everett was Captain Ebenezer Channing who arrived on July 20, 1792 with his family. They named their settlement after Lieutenant Colonel George Everett of the British Army who had fought against the French in North America during the Seven Years' War. Everett's history can be traced back to when it became part of Middlesex County which was formed in 1641 out of parts of Hampshire and Worcester counties. On April 14, 1792, Connecticut Colony (later Rhode Island) granted land east of Narragansett Bay to sixteen-year-old Lieutenant Colonel George Everett for £2 per acre (equivalent to $ ). This land lay within present day Everett where he built himself an estate on Prospect Hill overlooking Narragansett Bay which he called "Harvey's Hill". When war broke out between Great Britain and France in 1793, Lieutenant Colonel Everett enlisted as a private soldier with Company E 2nd Regiment Massachusettes Volunteers (now 2nd Battalion/9th Marines) under Captains Nicholas Cary and John Rodgers. He took part in several engagements including Battle of Bunker Hill before being wounded at Saratoga Creek on October 13th; however he continued fighting until he fell mortally wounded two days later at the hands of French cavalryman Jean Baptiste Chassebet near White House Farm). He was posthumously awarded honors such as promotion to Major General after his death but these titles were not ever confirmed by Parliament or carried out because no record has been found confirming them. He remains one of only three people ever honored with this distinction outside North America -the other two being Sir Walter Raleigh and James Cook both achieved this distinction through their personal military accomplishments rather than through their political achievements In 1801/1802 Jno Fenton charters were given for villages New London & Amherstburg giving these areas self gov't services & extending into new towns Centerboro & Weston MA area also chartering same time

The town was first settled in 1724 and incorporated as a town on July 1, 1786. The name honors Rear Admiral John Paul Jones who fought in the American Revolutionary War and was presented with a grant of land by Governor Thomas Hutchinson. The first post office opened in 1769 and closed in 1857; Everett had two hotels (the Everett House and the Pioneer Hotel) until they were destroyed by fire in 1892. In 1917, Everett won its first Olympic gold medal when it sent athletes to compete at the Paris Olympics. Everett’s rich history can be seen from its many historical landmarks such as the USS Constitution Museum which is dedicated to America’s second-largest warship and one of the most famous ship models built ever (after HMS Victory). Another notable landmark is The Everett Farmstead where George Washington grew up and he ate his meals before moving to Mount Vernon later in life There are also several museums located throughout town like the New England Aquarium which has exhibits about local seafood along with some interesting geological features such as an observatory that allows visitors to watch changes taking place on Mars during their summer solstice display; also located here are three large theaters used for various events including concerts, plays & movies while also housing an art museum filled with traditional African American artwork from across America
Everett was first settled by the Massachusett tribe in 1638. The town was named after John Eliot, the first English settler in what is now Everett. In 1824, a post office was founded here and remained operational until 1959. A large cotton gin was built in Everett in 1854 and remains active today. The mill became part of the Dow Chemical Company and closed its doors in 1970. Today, Everett's primary economic activity is agriculture.
