In 1922, Mr. Haggerty passed away and the company changed its name to theGeorge A. Haggerty shooting target holder Company Incorporated. In 1957, the company merged with another target holder company named Stevens Manufacturing Company to form Stevens Targets Corporation which still exists today as a subsidiary of National Sporting Goods Co., Incorporated.
Easthampton, Massachusetts is a town in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 12,569 at the 2000 census. Easthampton is part of the Boston metropolitan area. The first European settlers arrived in 1630 and began to build cabins on what are now the eastern edge of Easthampton. By 1713, there were three small towns in the area: Easthampton, Newburyport, and North Adams. In 1724, these towns merged to form one larger town under the name "Easthampton." During the Revolutionary War, many people from Easthampton sided with British forces against the United States. Some of these people were hanged or captured by American forces and brought back to England for trial. In 1812-1813, a large brick courthouse was built in Easthampton and used as a prison until 1827 when it was replaced by a more efficient jail known as The Old Bailey. In 1850-1851, an important railroad crossing at Forest Road (now Route 128) was built through Easthampton by the Worcester and Springfield Railroad company which connected Worcester with Springfield and other nearby cities. This made it easier for people living near Boston to get goods they couldn't get from miles away (such as flour). One of my favorite things about living in Easthampton is all of its history! There are so many places where you can find stories about early colonists such as John Winthrop who arrived in 1630 or Abigail Adams who married John Quincy Adams in 1777. Even today there are plenty of historical markers commemorating this time period around town!
