Easthampton, Massachusetts is a town in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 9,569 at the 2010 census. Easthampton is located on the eastern border of the state and is bordered by Plainfield to the north, Amherst to the east, and North Adams to the south. The towns of Amherst and North Adams are both adjacent to each other on either side of Route 123. The earliest European settlers in what is now Easthampton were those who arrived from England in 1620 as part of a largejonathan group led by Captain John Smith. After meeting many difficulties during their landing trip and then spending some time exploring the area around Boston Harbor they finally reached Easthampton May 20, 1621. It was not until 1627 that Governor William Bradford granted building permits for a small town in present-day Easthampton which had been founded by John Winthrop Jr., one of five original Puritans who sailed withCaptain Smith's expedition into New England. The first house built in Easthampton was likely that known today as "Winthrop's House". On October 3rd, 1797 it was donated by Colonel Ebenezer Winslow to be used as a schoolhouse for children living within easy walking distance of his farmstead on Pleasant Street (then called Dudley Street). The school opened September 10th, 1800 under teacher Mrs. Higginson with about ten students from Andover and three from Newton Abbot; there were no textbooks or teachers' aides back then! In 1814/15 an addition was added to this structure which became known as "Mrs. Sprague's House" after Mrs. Sprague (an early settler) who operated it until her death in 1868 when it passed through several hands including being purchased by Mr. Winthrop himself before passing through another family before being purchased again by Mr't Higginson in 1889 which designated it once more as "Easthampton School". It has been reported that due Easton High School having moved into its current facilities across Route 123 from the old high school site (now occupied by EHS Middle School) may have damaged some historical artifacts situated inside former Easton High School property line - if true this would be yet another example where convenience over history sometimes gets ahead of reality!

Easthampton is a town in Massachusetts, United States. The population was 20,812 at the 2010 census. Easthampton is part of the Greater Boston metropolitan area and the largest municipality in that area with a population of over 100,000. The town was first settled by the Dutch in 1636 as part of what is now Rhode Island. The English took over from the Dutch in 1641 and renamed it Easthampton after an estate owned by John Davenport, 1st Baron De La Warr. Davenport donated land to the town for development and grain mills were built on his farmlands between 1745 and 1760. In 1834, Easthampton became one of eight townships within Boston Township. In 1850, Voter’s Choice Party candidate Charles White won election as Mayor and served until 1853 when he was succeeded by John Aiken who served until 1861 when he was replaced by Elias Howe Sr.. At this time, voting rights were granted to all male residents age 21 and over without regard to race or religion; however female citizens could still vote through local school board elections which continued until 1920. Howe Jr., who had been mayor since 1861 before being succeeded by his son-in-law Charles Wigglesworth Howe III – also an elected official – assumed full powers effective December 1st 1876 when his father died intestate leaving no children under 21 years old living in Boston Township to succeed him as Mayoralty (the position then went out of office automatically upon death). On May 12th 1889 EasyhampTON voters passed a resolution authorizing incorporation into Middlesex County should Easthampton become “an agglomeration of several adjoining villages having mutual interests” (i.e., not just another township withinBoston Township). This action allowed easy annexation by other municipalities including Somerville, Brookline and Medford which happened on December 5th 1890 thanks to new zoning regulations created due to increased industrial activity in western Massachusetts caused by railroad construction projects throughout New England & southern Canada!
