However, despite this success, the Optical Company experienced several difficult times during its time as an entity. For example, it lost money on many of its investments and went through multiple bankruptcies. However, overall, the Optical Company still remains one of Chicopee's most significant businesses today.

The company offered a variety of optical products, including telescopes and microscopes. In 1912, the company moved to its current location on High Street in Chicopee.
Chicopee, Massachusetts is a town in the US state of Massachusetts. The population was 12,813 at the 2010 census. Chicopee is located on the border of Worcester and Fall River counties. It is bordered by towns of Agawam to the south and west, Westborough to the north, Holyoke to the east and south, and Needham to the east and north. The name "Chicopee" means "place where chickens go". The first settler in what would become Chicopee was Anthony DeWitt who arrived in 1634 from Connecticut. In 1777 General George Washington's armycamped at Chicopee for two weeks during their retreat from Boston after being defeated there that same year. In 1812 Congressman Nicholas Ayer moved his family from Framingham to Chicopee following his election as United States Senator from New England. He is buried here in Evergreen Cemetery with many other notable locals including Samuel Adams (an early advocate for independence), John Adams (President of the United States) and James Kapp (founder of Kapp’s ice cream company). In 1870-71 a sawmill was built on what are now Park Square Drive and Main Street in central Chicopee; it still stands today as one of only a few remaining mills within city limits in Massachusetts. During World War II much activity took place within walking distance of present day Park Square Drive: ammunition production near Bostwick Road; aircraft manufacturing along Ipswich Road; munitions storage around Manchester Road; shipbuilding yards at Mystic River Dockyard on Thames River south of Interstate 93; processing plants for war materials such as rubber, aluminum cans, TNT, gasoline etc.; food processing at various sites across town including Chipperfield Market Place/McCormick’s grocery store/Pizza hut; paper products such as newsprint fabrication near South End Avenue/Boys & Girls Club parking lot; clothing production near North End Avenue/Stroud's department store; among others . Many buildings still standing today were constructed during this time including but not limited to: Grand Central Terminal – now part of Macy's Department Store Complex (); Bank Of America Tower (); National Guard Armory (); First Baptist Church ()); Union Pacific Railroad Depot (); Sears Roebuck & Company Building (). Chicopee is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 7,782 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boston metropolitan area. Chicopee was settled by English colonists in 1636 as part of the Pequot War campaign against the Narragansetts. The town was laid out in 1639 and named for John Chicopee, an officer in Captain John Winthrop's company of Massachusetts Bay Colony forces which helped drive the Narragansetts from their traditional land near what is now Middleton, Connecticut. In 1737, Indian attackers burned down the tannery of Nicholas Goodenough and killed many workers; this event was considered one of the most significant disasters to hit Chicopee since its founding. The first store in Chicopee opened on Main Street on July 1, 1741. A post office called Chicopee was established in 1812 and remained operational until it closed in 1867. The first school open in Chicopee was an academy built on Watertown Common that served grades K-8 until 1861 when a new school building (now known as Elm Street School) were erected on behalf of the townspeople. In 1878-79, a new wooden high school building (later known as North High School) replaced the old Academy building; this building still stands today and houses local government offices including courts and library services. According to the 2010 census, 7,782 people lived within convenient geographic boundaries to attend public schools within walking distance without having to leave their homes: 9% students lived more than half a mile away from school while only 2% students lived more than three miles away from school; over half (54%) residents reported using transportation options other than walking or biking to get to class outside of home hours at least once during sophmore year; 82% resident community members said they voted regularly or strongly participated in local elections . . . Overall living conditions have not changed much since 2000 when there were 6790 residents according to US Census data though access has increased for some areas such as Blackstone Valley with 24%, Medford with 36%, Northampton with 28%, Southborough with 21%.
Chicopee was first settled in 1635 by the Puritans. The town was originally named "Waltham," but it became Chicopee after Captain John Winthrop's ship, the Hingham, arrived there in 1638. The town was chartered on July 1, 1641, and became a part of Massachusetts.
