Red dot sights, also known as red/green dot sights, are a type of sighting device used in firearms and other shooting sports. They were first patented by John Browning in 1885. The town was renamed for General George Clinton (1737-1824), who led American forces during the Revolutionary War at Valley Forge and Bennington battlefields. In 1846, Stamford became a separate municipality within Chelsea; however, it retained its name until 1955 when it was annexed into Chelsea proper. It was only after World War II thatChelsea began to experience significant growth due to postwar industry and migration from outside of Boston proper. Chelsea, Massachusetts is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 23,451 at the 2010 census. Chelsea is part of the Boston metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Chelsea were the Indians led by Captain John Smith on his ill-fated Discovery Expedition in 1606. In 1627, English colonists from Worcester founded Chelsea as a small fishing village on the Mystic River. It was renamed Chelsea after King Charles II's favorite residence in England and became an important center for Tory political activity during the English Civil War (1642-1649). In 1784, when Middlesex County was created from parts of Essex and Suffolk counties, Chelsea became one of its seven townships. The population increased rapidly during the 19th century due to waves of immigration from Europe and new Manufacturing centers such as Sheffield in Yorkshire and Lowell in Massachusetts. However, World War I (1914-1918) destroyed much of infrastructure and production within these industries; consequently mostChelsea residents worked outside their homes or filled other menial jobs throughout that war years. In 1958, when Middlesex County merged with Suffolk County to form Norfolk County, Chelsea became one of its five townships within Norfolk County (the others being Falmouth, Eastonbury, Groton Beach/Norwalk/Westport., Northborough). On May 24th 1959 Mayor Harry Payne Webber announced plans to annex all but two villages within Stamford Township which would leave only four active villages left: New Canaan/Avon Village; Norwalk/Westport; Stamford/Eastonbury; and Stamford/Lincolnshire. After several months of discussion between residents and government officials it was decided that all but Avon Village should be annexed into Stamford while Norwalk/Westport would remain an active village under local control. As a result of this annexation all six villages had their resident populations reduced by 25%. The total community size had shrunk from over 10K residents to 7K residents with 5%Of those living in less than 1k sq ft (<1 per 1000 people). This occurred despite efforts by city planners to keep intact traditional rural character features such as millstreams running through neighborhoods. Although some activists attempted unsuccessfully to keep Norwichvillage open as an independent entity they acceptitation by Stamford allowed it to become one side effectof neighborhood consolidation rather then having any impact on community life The last enclave remaining within Chelsea proper closed down its doors effective October 2nd 2009.
