Chelsea, Massachusetts is a city located in the southeastern corner of Massachusetts. As of the 2010 census, the population was 68,362. It is home to many optical companies and accessory stores that date back to at least the 1800s. They found an old textile mill in Chelsea and decided to move it into use as their new factory. In 1903, the American Optical Company was founded in Chelsea by Dr. John W. Keenan and Dr. Charles Fenton with a store at Belmont and Tremont Streets. Driscoll's Department Store opened its doors on Tremont Street in 1912, becoming one of the first family-operated retailers in the United States. The store closed its doors in 1976 but was preserved as part of Chelsea Historical Park until 1990 when it was acquired by the city and renovated into a museum dedicated to optics and technology.
Chelsea, Massachusetts is a small town in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The population was 7,549 at the 2010 census. It is located on the border of Hampshire and Berkshire counties. The town is named after Chelsea, England. The first settler in Chelsea was John Adams who arrived in 1630. Other early settlers included Samuel Eliot (1688-1757), Increase Mather (1692-1777), Christopher Wimpole (1693-1767) and Joshua Hathorne (1701-76). In 1714, Captain Jonathan Putnam built a small fort on what is now Water Street in Chelsea to protect his land from Native Americans. In 1724, British General John Forbes burned down Fort Putnam and destroyed many of the homes in Chelsea. This event brought about answering of petitions for incorporation by residents that were filed with the town meeting on October 15, 1725. On December 11, 1726, Chelsea became incorporated as a village under theorship of Drury Lane Tavern Company Ltd., which functioned as its first mayor and select committee member until May 7, 1802 when it was taken over by New London Township through an act of Legislature (12 Acts 2nd Session c 9). The village had three stores and one post office before 1840; however only one store continued operation until 1861 due to equipment failure during that year's winter storm; despite this outage some materials were still sent by wagon from Stamford to Quincy via Chelsea while repairs were being made to Stamford's post office building which reopened on July 3rd . Thereafter all mail was received at Quincy until 1959 when it merged into Boston Post Office #1 . In 1854 Elisha Gray founded The Gray House hotel/motel near present day Park Street & Main Street where he entertained American troops during their stay at Bruinsburg Barracks before they departed for India One room at each barracks could accommodate up to 20 soldiers so travelers could dine together outside between meals or sleep inside if they needed more than one bed! When war ended there must have been many families homeless as barracks were sold off or used as barns overnight but no written record has been found to back up these claims . Although most people left after hostilities ceased there are a few remaining artifacts such as valuable silverware from Garrison Hotel Museum across Main Street from today’s library

However, many longtime residents remain inChelsea today and continue to make a significant contribution to its economy.
