In 1904, Chelsea voters adopted a proposal to create an independent municipality within their boundaries- this was done in order to avoid annexation by Boston again and allow for more autonomy within their own municipal limits. The first mayor of Chelsea was James Fenton and it took until 1949 for full incorporation as an independent municipality with its own government. On May 15th 2014 Chelsea won its first championship in 350 years against Everett during the annual New England Soccer League Championship game at Fenway Park thanks largely to an aggressive defensive play from goalkeeper Shea Salinas who made several stops on headers from Everett’s top players early in the match

In recent years, Chelsea has seen some growth within its boundaries due to new development along Route 128 and into neighboring communities like West Sayville and East Hampton Beach. As more people move into these areas there are now more opportunities for businesses to open up andemployment levels have reached record highs here in 2016 alone!
