In 1812, until then one of the most important markets in Chelsea was that for fresh milk which took place on Market Street. The first post office in Chelsea opened on December 5, 1827 and remained open until October 15, 1861. The town was named after Princess Charlotte of Wales who died in 1794 while traveling through New England. She had been married to George III of Great Britain and before her death had given birth to two daughters: Princess Augusta Sophia and Princess Royal Adelaide Eugenie. During World War II, many residents served in the military including Harry Dexter White who taught high school here from 1922-1944 and later became Mayor of Boston; Lieutenant Colonel John Larkin (U S Army); Captain John Farrow (U S Marine Corps); Sergeant First Class Clifford Boggs (Navy Seaman) and other members of the Coast Guard Reserve Unit 3227 who were mobilized during 1944-1945. After Chelsea's incorporation into Middlesex County on November 1, 1907 it experienced rapid growth due to its location near Lowell Junction railroad station on Route 9 which made it easy access by truckloads of goods heading eastward acrossNH into Boston Industrial Park where General Electric manufactured radios and other electrical items for export around the world. By 1930 there were more than 100 businesses operating out of what is now called "The Villages Shopping Center" behind present day Yankee Stadium/Athletic Field complex with a street grid measuring 2 blocks wide by 4 blocks long with single family housing stretching along each block up to about 50 feet wide along avenues such as Beacon Street or Wellesley Avenue between midtown business districts within walking distance from all amenities such as supermarkets & movie theaters etc., making this an economically active community with commuter commuters coming both into town for shopping mall visits home visiting friends & family weekends away during summer months also pleasure riders coming down scenic routes like Beverly Hills Boulevard or Hyde Park Corner going past almost any village center you could imagine

Chelsea was first settled in 1630 by Puritan settlers who named it after the Dutch city ofchelsea. The town was incorporated as a village on February 14, 1871. On October 15, 1907, Chelsea amalgamated with neighboring New Bedford to form the towns of New Bedford and Chelsea. In 1960, Chelsea became an independent city under then Mayor John Lindsay. On December 2nd of that year however, Chelsea voted to become a part of the Boston metropolitan area and lost its autonomy again as municipal services were transferred to the newly formedBoston metropolitan government. The history of Chelsea began with early Puritan settlers who called it "Chellsea". One account suggests that they may have been led there by Rev John Eliot who had recently arrived from England after his ship reached America in 1630 with 50 families and 9 animals; he intended to found a church in America but only managed to install one tree before sailing back home on another ship soon afterwards! In 1661 Reverend Cotton Mather came overland from Salem and built what is now known as Beacon Hill House (1660). He also founded Harvard College which still exists today within Cambridge University walls! The first school in what is now Chelsea was opened by Reverend Nicholas Backhouse (17th century) on March 3rd 1711 using rooms in what is now Quincy Market. By 1800 there were 93 homes/houses inChelseaandthepopulation numberedonly around 100 people! The first post office established hereon November 12th 1789 served residentsofNewBedfordandonMarch2nd1801thefirstmailbagwas sent from Stamford! With rapid growth during this time many more homes were erected including two churches- First Congregational Church (now First Parish Cathedral) which was built between 1812-1814 and Second Congregational Church (now St Andrew’s Episcopal Church), which was completed between 1822-1824! These denominations would later merge into one Christadelphian congregationknownasChurchofChristAndHolyLawsIn2007!!! Over time Stamford also developed into an agricultural center due to its easy access to markets & riverside land while still maintaining close ties with other villages throughout Essex County! This helped give rise to some famous local landmarks such as Stamford Bridge where King George III met Queen Victoria when she visited America during her visit 10 years ago – or Pequot Lakes where you can find some very old white pine trees… Oh yes&the most notorious landmarkofall&thatisStamford green where all sorts of rowdy activities took place during prohibition era!!!! During World War II much activity took place at Stamford Green including manufacturing for munitions plants like Ford Motor Company & Bethlehem Steel Corporation; however 5% or less of total production went towards military purposes!! Many members of our community enlisted service here including Arthur Ashe Jr., Alvin Lee Sr., Lowell Thomas & Edward Rickenbacker !!! Although we are not formally associated with any branch or country these individuals represent us very closely indeed!!!!! After the war many businesses closed down but thanks largely to entrepreneur Glenbrook resident John Lennon we continueto experience strong economic growth !!
