In 1837, Brockton became an incorporated town with a population of around 100 residents. During World War II, many factories were located within or near Brockton; these included Allied munitions plants such as munitions factory No 3 (now Deming), Ford Motor Company's Willowbrook Plant #1 (now Tata Motors' DaimlerChrysler plant), Mercury Glass Works #5 (later Raytheon's Fort Worth plant), Bethlehem Steel's Elizabethtown Plant #2 (later Kelly Services' American Electric Power plant), Hormel Foods' Beechwood Mill #2 (now Beechwood Township Savings Bank) and General Electric's Hawthorne Heights Plant #3 (later Emerson Electric's Westinghouse Electric Company). After the war, many factories closed down or moved out of town; however, several large companies continued to operate within or near BrockTON until they merged or went bankrupt: Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’s Hiroshima site (#4-6 Park Street SE), Radio Corporation Of America’s New York City site (#1 Whitehall Square SE) and ConAgra Inc.'s Omaha Army Ammunition Plant site (#7 Union Street NW).
