Winthrop served as an important leader in establishing Plymouth Colony as one of New England’s leading settlements during the 1600s and 1700s. He also played an instrumental role in helping find new routes for ship traffic between Europe and North America so that settlers could explore this newly discovered continent firsthand. Winthrop's House still stands today located at 7th Street & Market Square within walking distance of many popular attractions such as Faneuil Hall Marketplace & Quincy Market
