The first post office in Beverly opened in 1827. In 1867, the name of the town was changed from Beverly to its present name when it became part of Middlesex County. Beverly experienced an agricultural boom during World War II due to its proximity to munitions factories and because it was one of eight towns within five miles of Boston that were used for military training purposes. After the war, however, Beverly's economy slumped as manufacturing moved out and most residents lost their jobs. Today, Beverly remains a largely rural community with few commercial areas and limited services available outside of its own village center which is home to high school and two churches.

Beverly, Massachusetts is a town in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 21,811 at the 2010 census. The name of Beverly comes from the English word " Beverley " meaning a meadow or pasture. The first permanent settlers in Beverly were three men and one woman who arrived on July 5, 1793 from Mansfield Township, Connecticut. They named their new land Cape Cod because they thought it would be a good place to refuge from the harsh winters in New England. The first post office was established in 1802 and the town received its start as a village on October 15, 1825 with twenty-one residents. In 1830 Beverly became part of Worcester County when that county was created from parts of Middlesex and Worcester townships. In 1836 Beverly had two stores and five dwellings; by 1840 it had six stores and thirty-six dwellings. It lost most of its business to railroads but regained some during World War II when the war brought new jobs to the area for aircraft production. Today Beverly is home to many businesses including several hospitals as well as numerous churches and other civic organizations
