In 1827, The Boston Transcript started publication within The Patriot building located on Broadway Street near King’s ChapelChurch (now Waterfront Park). It would stay in business until 1914 when it moved out into its own building on Prospect Avenue. This paper became well known for its accurate political reporting as well as humor and satire throughout its years of publication including many famous editorials such as “To All who Love Liberty: Nuttall’s New Gazette Is Off To a splendid Start!” In 1898 it merged with another local paper called The Republican which lasted until 1904 when it too merged with another local paper called The Times Herald which lasted until 1949 when it folded completely into Barnstable Daily News which still exists today

Barnstable, Massachusetts is a town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 7,848 at the 2010 census. The town is located on the Eastern Shore of Massachusettes and was founded by Puritans in 1636. It became a city in 1988. The Town of Barnstable was originally settled by English colonists in 1636 as part of an effort to quash any Indian landings on the Eastern Shore. The first settler named Barnstable may have been John Barnstable who arrived with his family from England in 1638. In 1641-1642, Captain Edward Winslow and his men established a trading post at what is now called "Winslow's Point". After Captain Winslow's death in 1644, his assistants built a larger trading post known as "Hancock's Fort" on what is now South Street (now North Street), which served as the center of power for much of the early Barnstable community. In 1656, John Winthrop founded Dartmouth College which later became Harvard University. As Dartmouth grew increasingly prestigious and powerful within Englands educational system, so too did Barnstable; until 1775 when Boston gained control over Academia through its charter from King Charles II. With this change came increased competition for students between Boston and Cambridge; however, many residents chose to stay put due to strong local services such as schools and churches that continued unabated despite these challenges. Many people immigrated to America during this time including some notable founders like Samuel Adams who had fled Great Britain after the Restoration following the Gloriana Restoration Act (1660). In 1847 both towns merged into Plymouth County under one government providing better services to their citizens while still maintaining their unique characteristics In 1988 Plymouth County abolished its separate municipalities status and became Barnstable City with all powers vested within its city hall The town of Barnstable has experienced many changes throughout its history including: becoming an unincorporated village in 1847; annexing neighboring communities Greenfield Village and Eastham Village;; becoming an incorporated city in 1968; merging into Plymouth County under one government effective January 1st 1988; losing all power to its own municipality effective January 1st 1998.; re-establishing itself as an unincorporated village effective February 5th 2002.; annexing neighboring communities NorthboroughVillageand SouthboroughVillage;; becoming an incorporated city effective February 5th 2002.; merging into Plymouth County effective March 15th 2008., losing all power to its own municipality effective March 15th 2008..
