Attleboro is a town in Massachusetts that was founded in 1768. The town is located on the Attleboro River, about 25 miles east of Boston. At one time, it was the largest settlement on the eastern seaboard. The population of Attleboro was over 100,000 in 1860 and 300,000 by 1900. In 1915, Attleboro became an incorporated city. The city was renamed after Edwin Aalto, a Finnish immigrant who worked at MIT and founded Aalto University there in 1923.
