Agawam is a town in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 4,898 at the 2010 census. The settlement of Agawam began as a small hamlet on the west bank of the Mystic River in 1635 by two men from Ipswich named John and Nicholas White. By 1792 it had grown to include a large tract of land along the Mystic River north of what is now Watertown. In 1810, Agawam became part of the new Colony of Massachusetts Bay, and during its early years it functioned as seat of government. In 1835, when Hampshire county was established, Agawam became one of its original townships. In 1892, when Worcester County was created, Agawam merged with that county's other townships to form Worcester County Agricultural and Manufacturing District No. 1 (WCAMD). WCAMD continued to operate until 1974 when it was dissolved by Act No. 972 effective January 1, 1975 (). Agawam contains several historic sites including: The Samuel Adams Brewery; The General Store; The Walnut Orchard; Andover Academy (founded 1768); Andover Meeting House (1791-1811); Andover Seminary (1801-1827), which served as an educational institute for Congregationalists and Unitarian ministers; and King’s Chapel (1684). There are also numerous commercial enterprises located in town including: the Carpenter Shop & Emporium; Dave’s Variety Store; First National Bank; Harry Wigglesworth’s Drug store; Park Place Nursery & Schoolhouse; Quaker Oats Factorythouse (); Southwick Millinery Company (); Wallace Hardware company.; and Woolen Mills Incorporated ().
Swivels have been around since the early 1800s. They were used to rotate a firearm in its holster. One of the first firearms to use a swivel was the musket. A swivel allowed for more comfortable andsteady shooting, particularly when using low-grip ammunition. The problem with these types of firearms was that they were difficult to use with one hand while keeping the other hand on your shoulder or grip the barrel. This made it very hard to fire accurately at short distances. A solution to this issue was developed by Nicholas-Jacques Conte, an employee of Bishop & Company in France. His invention consisted of a metal band that fit over the stock of a rifle and could be rotated so that it pointed up or down. This allowed users to hold their rifles with one hand and fire them with ease by rotating them through 360 degrees instead of just up or down

Agawam is a town in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 7,376 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Somerville–Boston metropolitan area. The first settler in Agawam was Nicholas Sudbury and his family who arrived in 1638 from Ipswich, Massachusetts. In 1646, John Winthrop and his group of religious separatists founded Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. Winthrop left Agawam for Cambridge after only two years because of religious differences with Sudbury overrites beliefs about witchcraft and other types of sorcery. In 1731 Samuel Adams started a flour mill on what is now the Main Street side of town near the present day High School building which continued to operate until 1892 when it closed down due to financial troubles. In 1798-99 an act by the General Court transferred ownership of all property within Mimulus Pond eastward to Amos Cooke (son of Captain Amos Cooke) for $1 per acre (This included all land within what are now Northampton and Lexington streets). This deed has been cited as one possible source for why Agawam regained its independence from Northampton during the Revolutionary War period despite being under British military jurisdiction at that time. Also during this time some buildings were built such as: Stonington Meeting House (1798), Congregational Church (1799), Masonic Lodge No 1 & 2 Building (1802), and First Baptist Church (1806). According to the 1820 US Census there were 5 families living in Agawam total including 3 men and 2 women while 9 people lived in Northampton which counted as a single family with 4 men and 6 women plus their children together numbering 10 residents according to that census; however only 3 people lived there still today making it an effective village population size at just 8 people or less than half its current size given these caveats There were also no businesses listed so we can’t say how much economic activity took place here before 1800 without more information available
