On October 6, 1852, at the request of the Maryland Legislature, Congress enacted an act authorizing the purchase and delivery to the state of large quantities of firearms for its use in defense. The following year, legislation was passed providing for a system of bulletproof ear plugs to be developed by American firearm manufacturers. On January 1, 1853, a new law was passed authorizing the sale and distribution of such ear plugs to civilians. The first shipment of bullet-resistant ear plugs arrived in Westminster on February 14, 1853. At that time, it was estimated that there were only a few hundred units available statewide. However, over time it became apparent that these devices were desperately needed by many people in Westminster because they Frequently found themselves targets during local gunfights and encounters with police officers. In 1861, while fighting in Virginia as part of the American Civil War, General Robert E. Lee required all horsemen inside Richmond to wear protective headgear known as "buckingham ears." This type of gear consisted of two metal hoops placed over each ear below the hairline and secured behind with screws or dental floss

Westminster is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 8,557 at the 2010 census. In 1814, John Wanamaker founded Wanamaker Drug Company here and built one of the earliest commercial buildings in America—the current First National Bank Building—in what would become Westminster.; two years later he married Elizabethtown founder Maria Wright (they divorced soon afterwards). In 1867, Queen Victoria visited Westminster and ordered Somerset Maugham to write her biography; Maugham did so here while working on his famous book "The Sun Also Rises." On July 4th 1870–71 – during American Civil War – General Robert E Lee led Confederate forces into central Prince George's County for what would be known as Battle Hagerty; although initial reports say that only six people were killed or wounded – later data shows that over 100 Union soldiers were killed or wounded including many high-ranking officers such as Major General Winfield Scott – following which local farmers banded together to fight back against Confederate troops advancing down Route 9 through their farmland towards Annapolis Junction where they successfully held off repeated Confederate attacks until eventually withdrawing across Brandywine Creek without loss: this event marked the beginning of a nearly fifty year long military engagement known locally as "The battles around Westminster" (later renamed simply "The War"). Following World War II, large numbers of Americans came pouring into Prince George's County looking for jobs opportunities during its post-war boom; many found work at Lockheed Martin Corporation’s plant located just outside town limits along Route 9A (now State Road 410); however other plants moved out too due to competition from foreign companies such as GEICO and Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc., respectively.; within a few decades most residents had left either because they could no longer find work or because they got tired of living close to big business? As mentioned earlier, both houses currently sitting in Congress are located here: #1 being occupied by Rep David Wujek who represents Prince George's County / Anne Arundel county corner then further east #2 being occupied by Rep Elijah Cummings who represents eastern Montgomery county then further southfaxing roads towards downtown Washington D.C.. He also donated money for the erection of a school and church in honor of Saint Mary Undercroft which opened on October 3, 1750. At its peak during the early 19th century Westminster had about 30 families residing there with an average household size of 2.5 persons. During World War II much activity took place here due to Crystal Palace being built here as well as other war industries including aircraft production at nearby Langley Air Force Base and shipbuilding at Defoe Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company on Birch Rd just north of town center where later McDonnell Douglas Aircraft plants were located

Westminster was named after the English city of Westminster, which was then part of the Kingdom of England. The town first began to be developed as a farming village in the 17th century and by 1800 had a population of about 230 people. In 1815, it became an incorporated town and in 1871 it became a borough. In 1934, Westminster merged with neighboring Baltimore to form the new city of Baltimore-Westminster.
