It consisted of a small, cylindrical lens with a round aperture at one end and a focuser at the other. The Weaver sight was used by hunters and shooters to target animals from long distances. The Red Dot Sight Company continued to make this type of sight until circa 1960 when they replaced it with their more advanced model, the Red Dot Optic which still remains in use today. The Red Dot Optic is composed of two parts: the housing (which houses the lens) and the optic itself which contains both your vision acquisition device (such as an eye dropper) and your sighting device (such as a reticle). When you place your eye on top of this component, you will see an image that tells you what range or depth you are targeting at.
