In 1860, a group of men and boys in Westminster, Maryland (then called "Westminster Township") decided to start their own holster company. The first holster company was started by John H. Gault and others in 1868. It was called the American Armory Holsters.
Westminster is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 9,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington Metropolitan Statistical Area. Westminster was named after King George III of Great Britain and his first wife Princess Charlotte of Wales, who also served as Governor of Maryland from 1798 to 1802. The original small settlement on the Potomac River near present-day Mount Vernon became Westminister in 1784 when Prince George's County was organized from parts of Upper Marlboro and Frederick counties. A post office called Westminster was established in 1802, and remained in operation until 1955. In 1855, parts of Prince Georges County were transferred to Montgomery County, which included much of what is now Westminster. As a result of this merger, Westminster lost its status as a town but retained its ZIP code (20001). The population reached 11,500 by 1970 and 12,700 by 2000. In 2007 it had decreased to 10,976 people according to the U.S Census Bureau estimate for that year. However it increased again to 11,814 at the 2010 census due to growth in nearby jurisdictions such as Takoma Park and Rockville Centre while other communities within Prince George's County remained largely unchanged during that time period including Bethesda (seat of government), Gaithersburg (largest city outside Washington D.C.), Silver Spring (the largest city east of Baltimore), Annapolis (capital city) and Harford County (including Carrollton). Until recently there has been strong effort underway by local officials to bring about revitalization across all aspects including retail development; arts & culture; job creation opportunities; housingoptions; education/training opportunities; business opportunity areas etc.; however little tangible progress has been made since the late 1990s despite numerous community meetings with various stakeholders throughout western Maryland

Westminster, Maryland is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 6,719 at the 2010 census. Westminster is the largest municipality in Prince George's County and the seventh-largest city in Maryland. It is also one of two cities in Montgomery County and one of three cities in Washington County. The other two are Silver Spring and Takoma Park. The town was first settled by English colonists who built Fort Caroline on an island near what is now Old Westmoreland Avenue in 1714. In 1776, during the American Revolutionary War, British forces burned down part of Fort Caroline to prevent its use as a military outpost against British forces loyal to America. The town was named for King George III of England because his father had been born there (George III had ruled before becoming king). Royalty from both Europe and North America were frequent visitors to the small settlement until it became known as "the little capital" due to its location within easy walking distance of major governmental buildings and other important cultural landmarks such as Parliament Hill and Beacon Hill. In 1872, Westminster became part of Montgomery County when it was created from parts ofPrince George's andWashington Counties. At that time it had a population of only 1,500 people; however, with rapid growth over ensuing decades it soon surpassed 5,000 residents In 1916 negotiations began for creation of a new county line between Prince George's County and Washington County which would have included much of present-day Westminster along with portions of Upper Marlboro Township (later Arlington) eastward to Ridgefield Park On April 12th 1917 final platting occurred which resulted in the addition of much future development including Queen Anne'sGate Boulevard/Old York Road extending into current day Takoma Park while all present-day Westminster remained within Montgomery County
Westminster was first settled in the early 1700s. It became a city in 1821, and was renamed Westminster after Prince George of Wales, the future King George IV. The city is located on the lower Potomac River and has a population of over 128,000 today.
