Westminster is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington–Baltimore–commonwealth metropolitan area. Westminster is located on the west bank of the Potomac River and includes land west of Interstate 495. The town was founded in 1799 by General Sir Johnmpierre Stuart and named after Westminster, England which had been his birthplace. The first settler in what would become Westminster was Captain John Smith who arrived in 1799 with his family from Virginia. He built a cabin on land that now makes up much of northwest corner of town off Route 704 near where Interstate 495 meets the river. In 1814, Captain John Smith's son Arabella married Colonel Robert Ewell and they started to cultivate some 100 acres (40 hectares) around their house east of present day Market Street near today's Catholic church and elementary school building; this became known as "Ewell's Field". In 1828, General James Knopp moved from Fredericksburg to take command of military forces occupying West Point during the American Civil War and he purchased about 80 acres (30 hectares) adjacent to Ewell's Field for $1 per acre ($22 dollars). This property would later become known as "Knopp's Run" because it lay between Knopp's House - now part of White Flint Heritage Park - on one side and Dogwood Hall on the other side of Fayette Road across from modern day University Village development on Capitol Hill right next to US Postal Service facility just southwest corner NW corner US Capital District boundaries then just northwest along Capitol Heights borders Montgomery County line before reaching downtown redevelopment area today bounded by Anacostia River Watersheds east, 3rd St NE - northwest corner W St NW - northeast corner I-495 corridor east while still remaining within classic congressional districts represented by Representatives Roger Cappelati (northwest), Elijah Cummings (southwest), Mike Quigley (centre), Ruben Gallego (southeast), Barbara Lee (southwest), JHampton Herring (northwest) until current boundaries are redrawn via re-election processes currently ongoing resulting in proposed re- assignments including portions encompassing unincorporated areas adjoining Annapolis County including Harbord Peninsula including Hyattsville neighborhood annexed by Annapolis city limits prior to January 1st 2020 annexation due to lack any better alternative

Westminster is a city in and the county seat of Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 16,522. It is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in America. The original area that became Westminster was part of Upper Marlboro Township. On March 1, 1851, it became part of Prince George's County when it was created from parts of Frederick and Charles counties. The first settlers to what is now Westminster were Dutch farmers who arrived around 1640. They named their land "Westerndamme" after the place where they pulled up stakes and moved westward on horseback during the Midsummer Campaign (1644). The first house built in what would become Westminster was likely erected by Early English settler John Smythe about 1712-1713 as he built a farmstead on land he had acquired from Lord Baltimore. Smythe named his property "Marlborough House" for his patron Marquis de Montferrat (1584-1643), Spanish Ambassador to England at the time.* In 1727–28, Thomas Pyle surveyed an area including present day Westminster which would be included in Prince George's County if it were not already there because no charter had been issued for that township yet! He called this land "New Westminster". In 1730, Pyle again surveyed this same area and renamed it Western Branch Valley because of its location within contemporary Westmoreland County adjacent to Eastern Branch Valley which formed Lower Marlboro Township subsequent to marriage between Captain John Smith (1674-1746) and Anne Appleton (died 1705).* Western Branch Valley lay along Wabash River until ceded to Pennsylvania by Maryland in 1800 following the Treaty of Paris ending American Revolutionary War *. In 1821 General James Harnett laid out streets gridironfashion near present day College Park and established town center with two square blocks bounded by Chestnut Street NW & High Street SE – making sure all futureImprovements proceeded eastward through western end of town centre before turning northwest onto High Street * New Westminster developed rapidly due to new transportation infrastructure such as canals(*), railroads(*), pipelines (*) Eventually over 2 dozen small businesses opened up along Chestnut Street NW throughout much growth late 19th century while many homes were constructed across several blocks on NE side becoming Center Square today*: [1] By 1870, entire eastern edge downtown since high street crossed river had been developed with large frame houses lining Broad Road running perpendicular towards river until recently replaced by modern office buildings [*]. However extensive demolition beginning in early 21st century has resulted both loss[2] and save[3], creating an contiguous historic district comprising more than 50 structures covering nearly 3 acres with numerous contributing properties .
