It is the seat of Prince George's County government and is located on the eastern border of Montgomery County. The original settleers of what became Westminster were farmers who came from England in 1775 during the American Revolution. In 1881, Town Hall was built on Winchester Road behind present day Park Place Shopping Center; this building served as its primary meeting place until 1955 when new Town Hall Building was constructed next door on Hanover Avenue which served as its current facility until January 1st 2019 when it burned down due to natural causes following years of neglect by local authorities The first post office in Westminster opened in 1839 The first school district in Westminster opened in 1865 Like most American towns during this time period there were no sidewalks or streetlights so children would walk home from school everyday by following any available path through Middlesex Mill Pond across Manor Road into town where they could buy candy or apples from Mrs Lynch’s Shop before returning home again for dinner In 1951, when King George VI visited America he made his famous state visit at Washington National Airport which led to increased tourism throughout Prince Georges County including visits by President Eisenhower who also used airport facilities for video conferences In 1965-1966 Westmont Elementary School moved from its original location near Bethesda Drive into what is now known as Old Main Library which sat paralleling Hanover Avenue until it too burned down in 1997 despite numerous attempts by officials at that time to save it Since then various other buildings have been erected along Hanover Avenue including: Addison Middle School (1998), Queen Elizabeth Middle School (2002), Bishop Dunne High School (2005), Renaissance Vocational & Technical High School (2007) – all serving similar purposes having served primarily as classrooms/school kitchens with limited retail functions beyond providing much needed storage space for materials such as textbooks etc . Current plans are being discussed for another elementary school building adjacent toOld Main Library should one become available . There has never been a lack of imagination or effort among local officials however persistent neglect often sidelines ideas rather than supports them . For example nearly 10 years ago an idea floated around about creating a park adjacent toHanoverAvenue consisting solely of small areas surrounding old mill pond with benches set up for people watching boats go by or playing catch etc .. no decisions have ever materialized .. simply because someone said “why not?” However if everyone takes initiative something beautiful can eventually be created
