Takoma Park is a small town in Prince George's County, Maryland. It was founded in 1827 by John Takoma and his wife Eliza. The name Takoma Park comes from the short form of "tack" which was used to nickname the area "Takoma". The town is located on the eastern edge of Prince George's County, bordered by Montgomery County on the north, Washington County on the east, and Frederick County on the south. According to the 2010 census, Takoma Park had a population of 31,722. The racial makeup of Takoma Park as reported by the U.S. Census Bureau was 24% White; 76% Black or African American; 2% Native American; 4% Asian Pacific Islander; 5% from other races; and 3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9%. As of 2000, there were 27 schools in Takoma Park: 10 elementary schools (K-6th grade), 6 middle schools (7-8th grades), 2 high school (9-12th grades). According to 2009 data compiled by Takoma native Glenn Reynolds III for his blog rexresearch.com, there are now over 100 businesses in town with an annual payroll over $100 million including many large tech companies such as Google, Facebook and Microsoft according to Reynolds' count - up from 50 businesses in 2000! With so much growth within such a small community it can be hard to keep up with trends but that isn't stopping Mayor Barry Herron or his staff who continue to make great strides towards keeping our community thriving - see their website for updates! Some highlights during my time as Mayor include: t he installation of new streetlights and sidewalks throughout town due to funding provided through Maryland'sstimulus package – this will help reduce traffic congestion and improve safety while making our streets more pedestrian friendly – also included was an increase in taxpayer funded jobs across all sectors thanks to programs like Hardship Jobs For All which provides temporary work opportunities for citizens during tough economic times – another highlight is that we have now been successful in suing several big players inPrince George's CountyGroups who violated our zoning laws

On February 14, 1865, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated outside Ford’s Theatre in Baltimore; two days later, President Ulysses S. Grant dedicated the four-acre park at 3rd and F streets NW to him. In 1899, postal service moved from Chestnut Hill instead ofmoving into Takoma Park due to budgetary constraints; during this time period many famous people lived or visited there including Woodrow Wilson and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Additionally, significant milestones throughout the years include the creation of Takoma National Cemetery in 1907 (later renamed Mount Hebron National Cemetery), and the opening of Bethesda Naval Hospital in 1959 which served as an switching point for wounded American soldiers coming back from World War II. Since its inception as a national park in 1974, Takoma Park has seen several expansions including an additional 4 acres added to east of Freeway 7th Street NW (the current site ofsienna apartments) between Takoma South Center Drive and Eastern Ave., an inner mall built on former farmland adjacent to Harbord Plaza Shopping Center off High Point Boulevard NW (now part of Westfield Montgomery County), new trails constructed around both halves of the park (including a new skatepark completed in 2013), as well as more community events focused on recreation and education within its boundaries like art walks or science fairs/days out for children that have taken place at various points over time
Takoma Park was named after the Takoma River, which runs through its center. The town was first settled in 1792 by German immigrants and their families. In 1813, it was incorporated as a village. By 1860, it had a population of around 1,500 people. In 1868, Takoma Park became an independent municipality and on July 4th of that year it became the capital of Maryland.
