Captain Higginson decided to use his cannons instead of handguns for artillery training exercises near Takoma Park because handguns couldn't fire all around the fort due to their small caliber bullets (only shot through one hole). As soon as Captain Higginson got his cannons he realized how valuabler rifled barrels were for artillery purposes and started making them himself! Captain Higginson's guns became very important during the American Civil War because they could fire round balls up to 100 yards away and can still shoot today! By 1863, many other states had gathered enough materials together to start manufacturing their own guns too so everyone was starting off with some different types of Barrels!

Today much of Takoma Park is located within Hyattsville; however portions of east side including Fell's Point have developed into upscale neighborhoods surrounding large shopping malls while downtown has been preserved as an open-air mall with office towers and other high-rise buildings dating back to pre-World War II days
