Takoma Park, Maryland is a small city located in the northwest corner of Washington County, Md., just east of Baltimore. It has a population of about 71,000 people and is the largest town in Takoma Park. The town was first settled by Germans in 1827 and became part of Baltimore City when it was annexed by Maryland in 1867. Firearms were not legal to be possessed or used within the city limits until 1903. In that year, firearms regulations were changed to allow for concealed carry with a permit. The town's first gun store opened its doors on Main Street in 1907. Since then, many stores have been opened and closed throughout the years, but the Gun Store at 5554 Old Columbia Pike is still open today and specializes in firearms sales, repairs, and rentals. The history of Takoma Park goes back to much earlier times when Native Americans roamed this area before European Settlement began hereabouts [1]. It is generally assumed that firearms were used by these early settlers for hunting and protection from hostile Indian tribes. By 1800 there had definitely been some form of firearm use among the native residents hereabouts as shown by archaeological evidence which suggests bows and arrows were being wielded as early as 1795-1800 [2]. Shooting galleries (or “gun pits”) also existed long ago near present day: one such example can be found northeast of Takoma Park on Route 509 near Federal Boulevard [3], where an abundance of Roundshot projectile points dating back to A.D.$25-50 can be found! After becoming part of Baltimore City on April 14th, 2003 handguns could only be possessed with a valid pistol license which required an individual to provide their own fingerprint card & proof Of Identity (photo). Pistol licenses continued to be issued until January 1st 2009 when MD State Troopers began issuing EOD cards which allowed individuals without licenses or permits to possess handguns statewide regardless if they had prior handgun ownership privileges inside MD State Limits! With this new law in effect all handgun owners must now secure their weapons either through FOID check/approval or through secure storage facilities! In order for citizens who already had Concealed handgun Permits (CHP) & Licenses (LHP) to obtain those permits reciprocal reciprocity was required so that citizen owned guns manufactured outside MD could also be lawfully possessed & carried inside MD provided it meets all requirements set forth herein !!! On October 1st 2007 LHP applicants received notice from DOL that reciprocity would not apply because CEPs expire after 3 Years !!! This decision was made despite overwhelming public outcry from citizens demanding reciprocity given that most CEP holders are currently living inside MD (& ineligible for Gun Store Permit renewal anyway)! Citizens who currently hold Concealed handgun permits (CDPs) will continue to do so under current law while citizens who have newly applied for CEPs should do so using their old application information unless they receive notification from DOL otherwise!! As far as handgun possession goes existing citizens will remain acceptably armed whilecitizens applying for new permits should do so using their new applications information unless they receive notification from DOL otherwise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The town has seen significant growth in recent years as it becomes increasingly fashionable to live and work in nearby Silver Spring and Bethesda. As a result, development projects have begun concentrated around the Gateway Center shopping center which opened in 2006 and the University of Maryland Medical School – Takoma Park Campus which opened in 2009. Additionally, several new apartment complexes are being constructed near Takoma Park High School while plans are underway to build an enclosed park adjacent to the mall that will serve as an open-air public space for recreational activities such as soccer games and concerts

In 1814, Congress passed an act to create a new county within Maryland, based on the recommendations of a Royal Commission assembled to consider land west of Frederick and south of Carroll counties. The new county was named for George Washington, who had been president at the time. In 1827, Congress annexed parts of Auburn and Bel Air Counties to form Montgomery County. In 1881, Takoma Park became part of Montgomery County as well. The population peaked at over 100,000 in 1920; however, by 1930 it had dwindled to about 3300 people. By 1960 it had shrunk again to about 3000 people; however, by 2000 it had increased again to more than 5000 people.
