There are also several businesses located throughout downtown including several small stores, two restaurants, one grocery store, three lumberyards/timber mills - all of which offer various services related to agricultural production or heavy industry such as manufacturing tools or parts for cars - as well as three health clinics providing medical care to residents of southeastern Maryland (and nearby Delaware). One popular tourist attraction in Salisbury is its namesake river –the Potomac River – which flows through the town center along Route 15B between Ulysses S Grant Boulevard and Court House Square before joining the Potomac River just north of downtown Salisbury where it empties into Georgetown Harbour near American University FCC Campus. Other attractions include its many historical homes dating back to colonial timesincluding some that still stand todayand Historic salishan fishing villages scattered throughout rural southeastern Maryland featuring traditional fishing methods like professional catchers known as shad catchers

Salisbury is a small town in Prince George’s County, Maryland, United States. The population was 914 at the 2000 census. Salisbury is part of the Washington-Baltimore-National Capital Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Salisbury was Nicholas Meyer, who arrived in 1776 and named his land "Meyer's Landing." He and his family were among the first Europeans to live in what would become Prince George’s County. The name "Salisbury" was given by Captain Francis Nicholson of HMS Beagle fame, who visited the area in 1802 while exploring the Chesapeake Bay. Nicholson called the township "Nicholsonstown". The town was built around a post office established in 1854 by James Auld and others. In 1861, Salisbury became one of four towns consolidated into one government under the new form of government known as "Prince George's County." The post office remained open until it closed on December 15, 1966. Although most residents today still call themselves natives or people from nearby jurisdictions such as Hyattsville or Takoma Park (which are also located within Prince George's County), many businesses and establishments have been brought over from other parts of Maryland or even Virginia during recent decades; examples include Federated Department Stores (1910), National Cash Register (1899), Montgomery Ward department store (1927), PC World (1996) and Best Buy Co., Ltd.'s physical stores (2002).
The town of Salisbury, Maryland was named for General John Salisbury and his wife, Lady Sarah Churchill. The first settler in the area, Samuel Noble, built a log cabin in 1792. In 1801, the town was founded as a small community on the south side of Indian Spring Creek. The name "Salisbury" originated from Colonel George Washington's coat of arms which featured an impaled salamander (a symbol of British power). The town grew rapidly during the 19th century thanks to its strategic location at the confluence of two major creeks. By 1870, Salisbury had a population of 640 people and it became one of the most important agricultural towns in central Maryland. By 1910, Salshire had a population of over 10,000 people and it continued to grow until World War II when it lost its status as an agricultural center due to increased industrialization and military activity in central Maryland.
