In 1871, a group of German immigrants settled in Rockville, Maryland. They started a small business trading firearms and ammunition. By 1887, the business had grown so large that it moved to its current location. The company continued to grow until World War II. During the war, the company produced munitions for the military. After the war, the company continue growth but changed its name to Colt Firearms Company in 1951. Colt Firearms Company was acquired by Weissel&Keller in 1986 and became part of Browning Arms Corporation (BA). In 2003, BA merged with Israel Military Industries (IMI) and decided to end production of handguns in Rockville.

By 1800 there were around 100 people living hereabouts including some Revolutionary War veterans who had been transported to America on HMS Guerriere along with their families In 1801 Nicholas Phipps founded what would become Bethesda Academy which lasted until its closure in 1883 due to financial troubles; two years later he donated land for what is now Morningside Heights Cemetery where he served as Principal since its founding In 1827 Charles Bennington erected what is now Stowe House as one of several homes for officers stationed at Fort Monroe during the American Civil War In addition to these residences growth came from small businesses such as tanneries and breweries that provided employment for craftsmen throughout the early 19th century Moses Brown started trading goods between Upper Marlboro Township (now called Silver Spring) and west Annapolis about 1795 or 96 when he established Mount Vernon Tavern on First Street between Mount Vernon Place and Capitol Hill . He sold items such as tobacco products from his tavern office until about 1800 . Brown also traded with Native Americans who lived along the Potomac River . The first store building known today within Rockville limits was probably built around 1800 by John Gregg located at Fourth Street / Ulysses S Grant Boulevard between Eisenhower Avenue and Eastern Ave This building still stands vacant but used as an agricultural storage area until 1954 when it was purchased by Jock Mahoney Sr who operated it as an ice cream parlor until 1978 when it closed because of lack of business About this time another tavern called "The Swiss Chalet" located across Second Street from Mr Mahoney's property opened serving refreshments daily while proprietor Joe Haggerty ran a bakery next door using ovens salvaged from nearby Tobacco Field Factory fire In 1903 Fayette Dixon leased property east of Third Street from General James Walker renamed Dixon Farm after himself Some local residents wanted park named after them so they organizeda name change campaign but no action was taken At some point prior to 1915 or 1916 Park Circle developed behind Ironworks Mill about 1 block southwest of present day Pkwy WGSR [Walking Green Road] On October 14th 1916 Daniel Boone made landfall off Point Lookout Beach creating Bass Strait just east thereof Hereafter this spot became known locally simply as 'Boone Point' Boones Ferry Landing RR bridge over Bass Strait forever linked Boones Ferry Landing with Point Lookout Beach
