The marines began providing these pouches in 1860 and continued to do so until their departure in 1865. However, during World War II, due to restrictions placed upon ammunition by the government, gun pouches became much less common and were only used by law enforcement officers who had special needs such as carrying a unlimited amount of ammunition. Rockville is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 54,815 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington Metropolitan Area. Rockville is home to Bethesda–Arlington National Military Medical Center and Goucher College. Rockville was first settled in 1753 by the German family of Kappelhof. In 1814, the town was chartered as a village by Anthony Wayne, then an American general during the War of 1812. The name Rockville originated from one of two small streams flowing through the town: "Rocky Run" ran along Potomac Creek and "Hollow Hill" flowed down Ridge Road. The first post office in Rockville opened in 1825 and remained open until it closed in 1907. In 1955, residents voted to become an incorporated city subject to referendum after voting on two separate proposals that would have allowed them to do so without input from county authorities or other elected officials. The city charter was adopted on November 5, 1955 and came into effect on January 1, 1959. It has since grown rapidly due to its location within easy commuting distance of Washington D.C., but also because it has been able to provide services such as zoning regulations for businesses and fire protection that are not available in neighboring jurisdictions

Rockville, Maryland is located in the Eastern Shore of Maryland and is bordered to the east by Frederick County, to the north by Washington County, and to the south by Anne Arundel County. The town was founded in 1795 as Westover on a tract of land that had been given to Mount Vernon Governor George Washington and his wife Martha Byng. In 1802, Rockville was renamed after Prince George Washington's father-in-law, Marquis de Lafayette. The town was incorporated as a village on November 2, 1871. On March 14, 1909, Rockville became an incorporated town with a population of 2687. In 1914–15 during World War I there were several raids against German munitions factories in and around Rockville. Local residents put up resistance and some were killed or wounded when British soldiers invaded the town on April 15th 1915 while supplies were being unloaded at local warehouses. The original courthouse building which now houses the Town Hall burned down on December 6th 1912. A new courthouse was built in 1924–25 and still stands today (demolished 2006). In 1951–52 two large dams were constructed nearby called Glen Echo Dam and Occoquan Dam; these created Lake Chesapeake which formed part of what is now River Road Park/Lakewood Cemetery across from Glen Echo Dam where General James Forrest's cavalry camped before Battle of Antietam in 1762 during the American Revolution. On October 12th 1953 Ulysses S Grant died at age 80 years old at Fort Myer near Arlington National Cemetery following a long military career including service as Commander-in-Chief United States Army Northern District (1865–1868) Rockville has seen many changes over its history including: it lost its railroad connection with Baltimore in 1971; it experienced rapid growth following incorporation into a municipality in 1921; it saw significant redevelopment following construction of Glen Echo Dam between 1951 and 1952; however, since then general numeric decline has set in as more people have left town for other parts of Maryland or Virginia than returned home; recent development within town limits has included an agreement among various businesses withintown limits not to participate or compete with each other via zoning laws enacted since 2000 which have led to increased traffic congestion due to increased parking requirements for businesses within downtown boundaries; furthermore recent development outside of downtown boundaries has includedexpansion into adjacent unincorporated areas including rollback annexation of portionsof neighboring jurisdictions resultinginincreased residential density relativetoresidential concentrationwithintownlimits
The area now known as Rockville was first settled in the late 1700s. At that time, it was a small village located on the Potomac River. The town grew rapidly during the 1800s, and by 1810, it had attained a population of around 500 people. It quickly became an important center for trade and industry, and its businesses prospered thanks to its location on the river and its access to resources such as water power and lumber. Rockville experienced a Period of Growth in the mid-19th century followed by a Decline in Population during World War I. In 1930, Rockville again reached its peak with a population of 6,000 people. However, this prosperity stopped abruptly after World War II when the economy crashed due to rationing of materials and scarce jobs. The town declined further until it officially ended Its existence in 1965 when it was merged into neighboring Bowie Township
