Rockville is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, U.S., located on the Potomac River about 18 miles (29 km) northwest of Washington D.C. It had a population of 71,191 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to visit what is now Rockville were French traders and missionaries who came through in 1607-8. The area was part of Frederick County until 1795 when it was merged into Prince George's County. In 1800, Colonel John Smith founded Friendship Academy which became one of the leading colleges in America. Rockville was incorporated as a town on December 14, 1821 by order of Governor James Klessinger and named for General Robert Ewell Rockofsky who had fought against British forces at Fallen Timbers on July 12, 1811 during the War for Independence. The community grew rapidly due to its location and its access to boats on the Potomac River; it reached a peak population of 507 in 1830 but declined quickly due to lack of development and competition from larger towns along the river such as Alexandria and Georgetown. However, after 1840s growth resumed thanks to new transportation links developed by railroads and improved land availability, Rockville again experienced increased population growth culminating with its current size of 71,191 in 2010 according to US Census data 。 The once small town has seen major redevelopment over the years including renovation/construction of many buildings used by government agencies as well as private businesses across several sectors including technology/finance/lawsuits etc.; all have brought benefits not only to those directly involved but also To the surrounding community making Rockville an increasingly thriving center for economic development both spatially and temporally %.

Rockville is a town in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. The population was 3,955 at the 2010 census. It is the center of Rockville Township and lies on the border of Montgomery and Prince George's Counties. The first permanent European settlers in what is now Rockville were three brothers, William, John and James Dixon, who arrived in 1781 from England. They built a log cabin on the north bank of the Potomac River and named it Dixon Place after their British-born father. In 1815 they founded what became known as Dixon Mill. The mill continued to be run by following family until 1870 when it was taken over by Pemberton Brothers Brewing Company. That company merged with Anheuser-Busch InBev in 1998 to form Budweiser corporations. In 1835 Drury College was chartered as a school for Black men in Montgomery County by Gov. John Cranch under the provisions of The General Assembly’s Act for Establishing Schools for Colored People (May 26, 1835). Classes were held at two different locations – one on High Street in Fredericktown and another on Catoctin Hill Road near present day White Marsh Ravine Park (then called "Dixon Bottom"). In 1840 Principal Drury transferred his operations to what is now Bowie Elementary School which then moved to its current location at 5000 New York Avenue NW after Rev Rufus King donated land for that purpose The first post office opened in Rockville on July 1, 1836; it remained open until May 9, 1865 when it was renamed Bethesda because Rosslyn had been chosen as the new county seat by act of Congress which took effect April 14th that year. At this time Bethesda also became known as "Rockville". A second post office operated at Mdproportional Precautions House (now part of Bowie Elementary School) until November 30th 1907 when all mail within Montgomery County must be sent through Washington D.C., an inconvenience given that there were only six postal towns within Montgomery County at this time A fire destroyed most of buildings inside Battlefield National Cemetery early morning October 5th 1861 during Confederate forces' attempt to burn President Abraham Lincoln's tomb just outside Intrepid Cemetery gates while he lay buried there with other honored Confederate veterans John Fenton Minton founded Western Electric Manufacturing Company located nearbyon Germantown Pike between 1920-1927 In 1957 Bowie Elementary School moved from its original location next door to Interstate 95 into its present building . It served as home school for many years before becoming an elementary school again . In 2006 rezoning allowed commercial use of space behind building including Ikea furniture store
Rockville was first settled in 1757 by the Potomac Indians. The town was named for Prince George's County, Maryland, which was then part of Virginia. In 1846, the town became the site of the Battle of Rockville Heights between Confederate forces and Union troops.
