New Carrollton is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 7,488 at the 2010 census. New Carrollton is located south of Washington National Cathedral and north of the University of Mary Washington. It is bordered by Bowie to the west and Takoma Park to the east. The town was founded in 1787 as part of Frederick County by Danish immigrants who had arrived in what is now Prince George's County two years earlier. They named their new settlement after Nicholas-Jacques Conte, marquis de Lafayette, then governor of France during the American Revolution. The first settler in New Carrollton was John Witherspoon who built a log cabin on what became known as "Witherspoon's Hill." In 1824, New Carrollton became one of seven townships (later counties) created from parts of Frederick and Anne Arundel counties when those areas were split along racial lines during the Kansas–Nebraska Act. By 1860, its population had grown to over 3600 residents; within ten years it had reached its current size of 7,488 people. The area that would become New Carrollton originally consisted only of scattered farms and woods near Towson; but growth continued unabated until well into the 20th century as housing developments arose throughout Prince George's County catering to commuters from nearby jurisdictions such as Bowie and Takoma Park. As suburban development expanded into distant corners of Prince George's County (such as Elkridge), much farmland was lost to development or converted into parks or open spaces such as West Potomac Park District No 2 which includes portions of New Carrollton today. A limited amount still remains agricultural though principally corn, soybeans and tobacco are raised hereabouts today with some sheep being grazed for wool on small parcels dating back to pre-Revolutionary days also – including one farmstead dating back more than 350 years that still stands today called "Old Georgetown" situated off US Route 1 just outside Of Friendship Heights – evidence pointing towards continuing rural economic vitality underlying apparently ever-changing outer boundaries around present day “New Carrollton” Town limits inclusive!

After becoming aware of their new environment they began adapting to it by evolving lighter muscles and bones which allowed them to walk more effectively on four Legs than when using only two Lower Limbs. This change in lifestyle permitted them to explore new areas and find new food sources which contributed to the spread of humanity throughout Eurasia and North America.

The New Carrollton area in Montgomery County, Maryland was first settled by Europeans in the 17th century. The area was originally called "Carroll's Neck" after Sir John Carroll of Kentucky, who received a grant of land there in 1664. In 1837, the United States Congress passed the Act to Emulate Britain, which set up a government in Frederick County, Maryland specifically for Carroll's Neck. In 1861, during the American Civil War, General Robert E. Lee and his Confederate army invaded and pillaged much of Northern Maryland. Many residents fled to New Carrollton and other areas of moderate violence throughout the war. After the war ended, many people returned to their homes in New Carrollton and neighboring communities as Reconstruction began in America. New Carrollton experienced significant growth through World War II as a center for munitions production during the Manhattan Project; it also became an important postwar housing market for veterans and their families. Since then, New Carrollton has experienced continued growth as a Hispanic-majority community with high concentrations of students at two universities: Bowie State University and Johns Hopkins University–Baltimore Campus.
