Laurel, Maryland is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 14,822 at the 2010 census. In 1814 James Kapp purchased land east ofpresent-day downtown Laurel from Nicholas Pratt for $2,000 dollars only to have it sold three years later to George Washington who built him a house thereon known as Mount Vernon House (now part of University Hill). In 1829 Congress passed an act authorizing Commissioners of Agriculture to purchase 1,500 acres including all that lies north of Telegraph Road between Centreville Road and Harford Road for agricultural purposes; this included much of present-day Laurel Valley including part of what is now central city areas likeCathedral Park &townsend Square According to local legend General Robert Ewell decided to move his headquarters near Catoctin Mountain so as not blocked by Centerville Rd., but actually moved them some miles closer to where they are currently located just outside Catoctin Mtn National Park boundaries! By 1893 almost halfway between Centreville Rd./Mount Vernon House & modern day Central City areas had been developed – land north o f Telegraph Rd./Harford Rd., called “Laurel Valley” by then residents – while eastern portions such asCathedral Park still remained rural until after World War II when so many new homes were built within city limits that even those along Telegraph/Harford Roads no longer appeared on map? Only during recent decades has anything resembling a consistent pattern emerged i n terms o f development & growth rates across neighborhoods within city limits over time?
