Gun cleaning was a common activity for the military and law enforcement during that time. In 1919, gunsmiths moved to what is now known as the Laurel Armory on Market Street. From then until 1958, this business operated as The Pistol Shop. In 1958, The Pistol Shop merged with another business to form The Armory Corporation. This company continued to operate as a firearms store until 1984 when it closed its doors due to economic problems. Today, there are only two remaining businesses in Laurel that still sell guns- The Clockmaker’s Arms and Firearms Gallery. Laurel is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 8,633 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington-Baltimore-Northern Virginia Metropolitan Statistical Area. Laurel was founded in 1749 by General Christopher Gadsden and named for his wife Lady Laurel Hill. The first settler in what is now Laurel was Captain John Smith who arrived on July 10, 1749. He built a cabin near present day Mount Vernon Road and named it after his patroness Lady Laurence Hill (the so-called "Princess Anne"). Other early settlers included Abraham Hopkins and Benjamin Banneker. In 1821, the town became one of twelve towns within the newly formed county of Prince George's. That year saw the founding of Spray Point lighthouse which stood until 1839 when it was destroyed by a storm In 1851, Congressman James K. Polk moved from Philadelphia to take up his new appointment as Senator from Georgia and began attending business meetings in Baltimore while he awaited word from President Franklin D. Roosevelt concerning his candidacy for that office Completed in 1865 were two miles of Capitol Street between Fifth Street and Fort McHenry Boulevard which forms much of modern downtown Laurel The development boom that followed Prohibition led to an influx of workers into town during the 1920s – one such worker being Barney Frank who worked as a storekeeper before entering politics as an assistant majority leader in the House of Representatives In 1941, Mayor Harry Wohlman declared May Day "Laurel Day" to celebrate its incorporation into Prince George's County . Incorporation also brought about increased economic development with many new businesses opening up including several banks ,a grocery store ,a department store and residential properties . By 1990, laurel had attained status as an agricultural center with around 100 farms employing over 1,000 people A major fire consumed most of downtown during December 1994 causing extensive damage but no loss or fatalities

It was very effective at removing build-up on barrels and interior surfaces; however, it required daily operator attention which limited its use to highly guarded facilities. BACP remained in production until 1966 when it was replaced by the Heckler & Koch HK416 pistol cleaning system which is still in use today.

Laurel is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 5,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area. Laurel was first settled by English colonists in 1634 and became a town on November 3, 1828. The current town name is derived from the old French word "laurel" meaning "a shining jewel." The first settlers to Laurel were farmers who came overland from England in 1634. They built their homes near what is now known as Mount Vernon Square on nearby Blackwater Creek. Laurel quickly became a thriving community with its own school and church. In 1793, it was renamed after General John Forbes (1746-1820) after he defeated the British at Saratoga Springs in New York State. In 1814, President James Krieger ordered all U.S.-owned lands east of Potomac River be sold to provide money for army campaigns against Native Americans during the War of 1812. Many of these farms were given to local farmers who formed Associations to manage them and named themselves townships or counties when they lost their land status following the war’s end. When Baltimore City was founded in 1821, Laurel join as one of its original wards and remained part of Prince George’s County until 1959 when it became an independent municipality separate from Prince George’s County under then-Governor Marvin Schmitt III (D). At that time, Laurel had a population of 710 people and included parts of modern Park Heights and Owings Mills along with parts of White Marsh and Middlebrook Township which still form part of today’s Laurel Town Center area
